Triumph TR6 - Need to drain?
Thought the season was over in Minnesota, but 60 degrees F here on Nov. 6. I need to replace my leaking heater control valve and all available instructions say to drain the system first. Since the valve is at the top of the flow circuit and there won't be any pressure, can't I just disconnect the hose and valve and expect only a little bit of overflow? There is no drain cock at the bottom of my radiator (early '74) and draining is a pain. Would you go for it? Thanks, Keith |

I'm with you - why drain the system? I didn't last time I changed one out. |

Thanks Brent. Any other advice? Looks like just disconnect the hose and cable, unscrew the valve (original equipment; might fight a little) then install the new using teflon tape. That it? |

That's it Keith I did it that way 7 years ago...no problem If the engine is cold you probably won't even see a drop of coolant when you remove the valve Charlie |

Epilogue - Valve replaced, not a drop of coolant on the floor, and most important, hitting the road for one of the last great weekends of the season. Thanks for the advice! |

Keith, I hope you did not replace it with a stock unit Don |
DON KELLY |
Don, What's wrong with stock. I got mine from TRF and it "looks" ok. Should I be concerned? db |
Doug Baker |
Nothing wrong with stock if you want one that is hard to pull and usually won't close all the way. |
DON KELLY |
Doug, mentioned to my Bro about you and he asked if you were a Rocket Scientist or a Fuse lighter |
DON KELLY |
Hey Don, I've been both!! at one time or another. In this town, it may not take a rocket scientist, but then, they're on every corner, it seems. You should come for a visit!! db |
