Oh boy, I wish I had one of them toys. Would make life so much easier. |
Kypros Christodoulides |
So would I. It's getting tougher and tougher to drag out the jack and safety stands and then crawl under the car to work on stuff. Maybe if I am a good boy Santa will be kind. But he will also have to buy me a new house and garage to fit it. Looks like you also have the garage to fit it Don. That helps a lot. The small garages they build here in metro Toronto can barely fit a TR6 let alone a car hoist.I can get my Impala on one side but not the other (TR6 can fit that side)and don't even try the crew cab short box F150. The mirrors will hit the door frame and the back end will stick out 2 feet. |

There is a video on the net that shows a gentleman setting his up and how long it takes. He has a skinny 1 car garage his Viper is in. He uses it in there and a great idea, he uses it out in his drive way. |

Don How is the installation going? I saw the group buy on Garage Journal and almost pulled the trigger, but my wife found better things to spend the money on! In case I manage to convince her it is a smart investment, could you let me know how wide the posts are when you have it set up for a TR (I assume you are setting it up mainly for the TR8?) Alister- what do you mean how wide the post are? |
DNK |
Don Sorry - missed your question. I have seen people writing about their installations, but usually for American cars, which (rightly or wrongly) I assume means wider than a TR. The smallest spacing between the columns I have seen anyone mention is 96 inches, but the TR6 is only 61 inches wide, and my Stag is 63 inches wide. I think my question is whether I would need to leave 8 feet between the posts when the cars are just over 5 feet wide. My garage is "2.5 car" width, but with the workbench on one side, kid's Powerwheels, bikes etc. and all of the other stuff that finds its way into the garage, I don't have as much room as I would like! No basements in Texas... Thanks Alistair |

Alistair-Hopefully this will answer your your question. As I have a Safari Van too. I will have additional holes elsewhere in my garage for that. In your situation, you can have one set side, and 2 locations at different widths. Just install some set screws in the holes to protect the threads when not in use ![]() |

Thanks Don Looks like I misread the measurements others had mentioned - I assumed that the measurement was inside the posts, but your drawing shows the 105" for sport compact includes the post. I reckon I would go with something around 100 inches wide, then maybe set up other anchors at 115 inches or so in case I want to lift a real car. Not sure I would trust the concrete in my garage to use a lift like this for a full size SUV or pick-up, though. |

If your concrete is iffy, and I'm not sure about mine yet, you saw out about a 3 X 3 area and dig down a bit and re do it Not hard to do |

Don, it's been a couple of weeks since the new toy's arrival. What playing around with the new toy have you done? |

Well, The first time it was on the lift (pictured) it got stuck. A little shaking of the girl, very little, it lowered . Found out the inside of the columns need to be lubricated. All is good Well, the only thing done on it was the rear brake pads of my daughters Accord. I've been waiting for her to get home to do that before I start the Wedge jobs |
