Triumph TR6 - New TR 6 Owner

Hi to all out there in cyberspace,

After searching for the last 4 years I eventually bought a '73 TR6 today.
Having owned a '58 and'60 MGA in the past I was always a MG fan but like most classic car enthusiasts, I lusted after a Austin Healey and have been looking for one for years. However I could not justify the astronomical amounts that people want for their cars. The last one I looked at was $30,000 CAD and required another 10 to 15 grand just to make it driveable!
I happened upon this web site a few years ago and largely due to the enthusiasm of the members for their cars I decided to give the TR6 a look.
And dare I say it the TR6 today is a far better bargin than a Big Healey.
The TR that I bought was a "frame off" restoration 10 years ago and has done about 3000Kms since then.
I had it inspected professionaly. It is still in excellent condition with NO rust.
Must say I feel guilty about leaving the MG fold but the sound of the TR was irresistable!
It feels great to be a TR6 owner.

N.T., welcome aboard... there are no waiting lists to becoming aflicted with the TR syndrom but the waiting lists for treatment go on and on... and THIS is the que!

Too much fun here with a great bunch of guys... let us know your first symptoms...urr ,I mean, impressions of owning a SIX.

I guess I'm just trying to set the girls and MG guys off here..

Welcome to the world of Triumph, it's a man's car. Girls like them, but they're built for men.

The 6 is a much more modern design than the Healey, in my opinion.

...gotta thank the German's for the design and the popularity of the Datsun 240Z in the US.

Neil - welcome to the list - your weather should be just about right for max enjoyment when the drizzle clears up!!

Enjoy!

Welcome to the BBS. I too lusted for a Healey, but alas ended up buying my '74 TR6 from Len Drake in Kelowna, B.C. I drove it back to Toronto, and after 1 broken fan belt, 1 fryed alternator, a misfiring problem, and a starter that wasn't sure it wanted to work all the time, limped into my driveway back home (2600 miles). I do not regret my purchase, and have learned much from this site and the great folks that contribute to it.
Cheers

ps tell us where in oil country you are from.

Ehhh, another cannuck! Welcome.

Personally, I lusted for a Jag E type convertible, which I couldn't afford, then the Austin Healey, which I couldn't afford. I had an MGB, then a Jensen Healey and now a 71 TR6. Of all the Brit cars I have actually owned, I like it the best. It sounds great, it has some real torque, it's fun to drive and it looks great.

I still like the E types, though, and maybe someday...

John, for every dollar of value the six goes up the E-Type goes up 2 1/2 times. better hurry on that Jag!

Hi Pete,

I live in the center of oil country, namely Fort McMurray. Not exactly the center of the universe as regards LBC'S.This is big block Chevy counntry!
Hopefully the TR will introduce a bit of British culture.
There are one or two MGB's floating about and a non driver TR6 languishing in someones back yard awaiting "restoration".
Should be interesting driving down the main drag at minus 40 with the hood down.
Regards, Neil.

Neil,
Welcome and congrats on getting a TR6.
Yes Don, another Canuck.
Neil that is what us LBC owners do...we drive down main street with top down at -40. Just to show the big American iron guys we are tough of course.

Neil,

Does it get up to -40 in the Fort to take the top down on your 6? I would guess the vinyl top would crack- you may have to switch to a leather top.

Congratulations on your purchase and I wish you many happy years of motoring.
