Triumph TR6 - Oil in the Interior

I purchaed my car (73) last fall right at hibernation time and everything ran reasonably well. I went to move it today and while the engine was running, a large amount of oil came leaking throught what I believe to be the heater box and dripped onto the tunnel and pooled on the drivers side footwell. Thank God the carpet was out for replacement!!!

I've just looked at the manual and it appears there is an outer oil pump???

Any advice would be appreciated.

Doug-Either the oil pressure gauge tube has sprung a leak or the connection at the gauge is leaking. I think you can access the gauge by removing the speedometer. Removing the driver's seat and steering wheel also makes work under the dash easier on the aging body.

Yup sounds like the oil pressure gauge. A very difficult place to get at unfortunately. There is no outer oil pump but there is an (optional) external oil feed line at the back of the engine. Depends if PO put this on the engine. Does not go any where near the interiour.
I agree with Berry. Best choice is Tach removal. Still not easy to remove because of the clamping thingamajigs holding tach to metal dash frame. You might want to consider removing both tach and spedo cables (just unscrew from back of gauges) then unscrew the dash and pull the top of the wood dash towards you. I can only say ...have fun.

Rick-You are right-It is the tach that would need to be removed to access the oil pressure gauge. In my dyslexic mind, the speedo was on the right side.

Doug-Your car may have the ultra rare interior oiling option that was available to reduce rusting of the floors.

The floors will never rust now!!!!

I had the same mess on my TR4 many years ago, more than once. It only seemed to leak when the oil was the dirtiest and blackest.
It had the plastic oil line to the gauge. As I recall the fix was to heat shrink the plastic tubing onto the
stub on the back of the gauge. Each time it happened I
had to trim a little more from the pipe to re-shrink it. About the time the tube would barely reach the gauge I sold the car thereby becoming a DPO.
Some fun, eh?
BTW, I believe there is an electical conversion kit available?

My line is brass and looks original??

The original equipment oil line to the pressure gauge is plastic. Seeing hard lines as replacement is not all that uncommon. I went with a -2 braided flex line as a replacement for my plastic leaker.
