Triumph TR6 - Oil Pan Gasket
I want to replace the Oil Pan Gasket on my '71 as it is very leaky. I have tried on several occasions to tighten the bolts ever so lightly (understanding that these are not to be torqued) to no avail. Is there a "preferred" gasket to use or is cork type best as supplied by TRF? Should I use any Permatex or like product? Can I use locktight type of product on the bolts? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

I think the stuff I used was made by Permatex it came in a caulking gun type tube. It has to be specified for the job on the oil pan...Apply it around the pan and completely around each bolt hole. No need for a gasket as it forms it's own. Done a couple of years ago and no leaks so far. Charlie

I used a cork gasket and Hylomar sealant...no leaks. Mike

Cork. Use a little gasket cement to attach one side to pan. Use bolts & clothes pins to hold in place and allow to dry. When ready to install, use a little gasket cement on topside of cork gasket and bolt-on.

I appreciate your comments..........Thanks !

I also used Hylomar and found it very effective but I also made sure the flange of the sump was 'true' using a hammer and dolly, a lot of them are distorted by having been overtightened in the past. Ron
