Triumph TR6 - OK Its Damson Red now where does the black go?

Hi to all in TR6 land. Well my 1972 is finally getting sprayed. My question now is where does the semi gloss black start and stop. Hope this dosen't cause to much controversy unless it turns into fun of course! Thanks and regards John

Six Pack long time ago had a diagram from British Leland. Perhaps is still on their site. I painted my car dark blue and left the black off. I like it with out the black which I always thought was done for the North American market and not in the UK.

I like the black. That's how I remember the "new"
TR6's that I wanted as a kid.

While my car was under restoration I went to a local Triumph car show and took some digital pictures of an original 76 TR6 around that area to see where I needed to mask off.

John, If you want me to dig up those pic's give me your email and I'll send them to you.

Henry,
Would you send them to me too, if/when you find them. Thanks.

I like the black....from all diagrams i have seen and how i went forward as a result, the flat black starts on the edge of the boot lid just as it starts to curve in/down from its maximum extended edge point.

Glad to hear the project is moving along, would love to come see it sometime since your only a stones throw away

The holes for mounting the "Chrome" strip below the doors is the traditional line. Mask off going down the center of the line of holes. The rear I'm not sure. I had mine done last spring and I told them to do it and they did it. Looks OK but I never really stopped to critiqe it.

A TR6 without the black back is just not a TR6.
The old saying "a .jpeg is worth a thousand words" is about the only way of 'splaining it.
e-mail me for some pics (remove AT and DOT). Will add this to CDII.

Doug,

I'd be happy to send you the pic's. I guess John got some from Rick. Did you get the same? Not sure I saw your name on that part of this thread. As I said the pic is of an original car with original paint. So that's how they did it.

I'll send them shortly

I think the black is essential on the back, but the last time I painted mine I modified the patch a bit to leave the boot edge body colour and start the black at the boot opening. It enhances the horizontal stance a bit and I must say I prefer it this way. It's also easier to mask.

Don't forget the windscreen frame. Except for 1969 cars, the windscreen frame should be hit with the black paint also. On the 1969 cars, it is painted to match the body.

The TR-6 was the first vehicle to have a black out rear. Other manufacturers like Datsun and Toyota copied this idea. Triumph was the trend setter.
That said, why wouldn't you black it out?
When opening the boot, the black lines are angled on the sides. SKIKIR is correct about the line for the rocker panel.
I copied my black out rockers and rear deck from an original TR-6. If you want a picture, just let me know and I'll send it out.
Ok... got to go now and work on the tr

Sorry All I said was I like it without the black. Looks nice with it also especially if body color is light. Just personal choice. Did the UK cars have black on the back?
