Triumph TR6 - On the Road Again!

Well, Folks, after a lengthy driving restoration and three and a half years off the road finishing off the drive train and engine bay detailing it's finally on the road again with her new socks and rims and dual ($#*%#!!SOB) Falcon exhaust. Been fooling with engine timing and carbs and at this point it runs a little rough but you can feel the power is there in the new engine and the oil pressure is GREAT! - 80lbs cold and 70 warm. Also sorting out some dash light and gauge glitches as all that had been pulled out as well but I am able to drive and tune it. Lookin' pretty spiffy I think :)
Cheers,
Bob

Thanks Mike. Looks from your pic and writeup like you had a good, wet drive lately :) More pics please.
Les Gilholme now lives two doors down from me and we spend a good bit of time in my garage. After our first drive Canada Day he is more anxious to get his underway so we worked on his carbs and got them sorted out and ready to go on the car. Not much to do as the carbs he bought were rebuilt and the guy did a pretty fair job except for the bypass valve assemblies. Great to have a TR6 bud so close by to share TR6 stuff with and Les is pretty slick on electrical - a real bonus.
Cheers,
Bob

Love it Bob! Look like mine...what year? Mine is a '76, com CF 57639 UO also #19 white
Hope to see it out on Vancouver Island some day... or meet you part way...

cheers, Rob

Hi Rob:
Mine's a '76 also. CF53465U. Konig Rewinds, Falcon dual stainless, GP2 cam, Carl Visser rosewood dash + only about $8k more in other parts. The only part I didn't rebuild (yet) was the starter, which naturally quit this past week. If I go to Van it will probably be in a BMW Z4 as my wife just does not trust the TR6 anymore and is really PO'd 'cause I sold the Bimmer and kept the 6. May have to get another Z4, which is not really that big a burden to put up with.
Cheers,
Bob

P.S. Looks like from the above posts that ol' Les has been busy while on vacation back in Newman's Cove :)

Hi Bob, our cars are very similar: mine includes Konig rewinds in bronze and silver, dual custom stainless exhausts, fast street cam, 1.55 roller rockers, +.020 hepolite pistons, Spax and poly all around, rewelded/gusseted frame, OD, CNC cut solid Yew wood dash, custom radiator shroud in aluminum and powdercoated SG black... as is the trunk liner but PCed in jet black crinckle to match the original cardboard, European Lucas headlamps (NOS, and I have a few more sets to sell), Lucas LR /FT11 driving lamps and fog lamps, matching factory hardtop, etc. I have to finish placing about 60 bs of dynamat through the car and install the interiors including leather covered seats and Wilton wool rugs...also Kenwood head unit with dumby 8-track removable face and Nachamichi amp (still puzzeling how to fit this and the Quart speakers?! Lastly I will be installing a factory stripe kit in black.

I am travelling at the moment in northern BC but only in my FJ : took the Duffey lake road into the interior through Whistler...now that is a blast of a road in either direction as it is a twisty hill climb over the course of a few hundred kms. We actually passed an Inca TR6 somewhere near the summit...man was I ever envious!

Really I would love to drive the 6 to NFL and explore some of the coast there...perhaps in a few more summers... finally married off the last of three daughters last week and time and money may be on our side!

Cheers, Rob

Don, did you ever drive the Sea to Sky highway when you lived in Wa? I did the Chuckanut Dr. a few times when I was down your way... used to do regular shopping at Boewing Surplus... also did the Rising Sun Hwy in Montana in our MGB LE... nice ride for sure!

Cheers, Rob

I've driven the Sea to Sky road a copule of times in interesting British cars after the ABFM at Van Dusen, but not a TR6 (yet). I did take the 6 to the Going to the Sun Road in Montana earlier this summer, and it really is a treat. Sadly, there are no roads in Saskatchewan that one could describe as "must drives" so as to entice drivers from away. Maybe we should all meet in the middle at Rendezvous in Kenora next year (watch Manitoba Triumph Drivers Club site for details).

The Kenora get together sounds of interest Tony. Thanks for raising the awareness. I will check it out and if we can swing it maybe make the trip. I have taken the car as far as Wawa but time on that trip didn't allow further western travel.

Montana is on the list but a few years away yet I suspect.
