Triumph TR6 - Ontario Vintage Car Insurance

Who has the best deal on insuring a vintage car in Ontario Canada? What can I expect to pay?

silver wheels with Lant insurance brokers. I pay around $90 a year for full coverage. They are on the Donway in Don Mills. they offer full replacement coverage depending on appraised value. There are restrictions: can't drive the car to work, to a mall for shopping, take it on vacation or use as regular transportation. You must be licenced for at least 10 years and have another car that is currently insured .
Steven

I also agree they are the lowest.

Last Spring, I checked them out and because I drive my TR3A as much as I do each summer (over 8,500 this summer and over 10,000 miles last summer) I felt the restrictions were too limiting for me. I asked what constitutes "vacation". They said they'd have to think about it. What I do is mostly vacation. The only vacation I take in a summer is when I drive my TR. I love to drive "TRusty" anywhere including to a mall. When I'm 3,000 miles from home, I have to buy things and I find a mall is one of the safest. I just don't park it near all the others. That's why I insure my TR with the same company who insures my Buick LeSabre. It costs me CDN$ 600.00 for $30.000.00 value coverage (at Minnesota VTR last July they awarded me 2nd in class with 383 points out of 400 in the judged concours - with almost 70,000 miles driven since my restoration in 1990) minus the winter refund of CDN$ 165.00, but I don't have any restrictions.

And I just put it away yesterday for the winter. On April 1st next spring when I take it out I'll get a refund for 5 months on the insurance premium.

Well spoken Don.
Mati, you have to understand that if you go with Lant (agree is cheapest..with limitations) make sure you do not take your new acquisition to the mall to go shopping. I called them and It was around $135.00 with $20,000.00 replacement. I pay a lot more than that now, but I can drive her when and where I want to.
I think the saying is "buyer beware".

In my opinion, " The Silver Wheel Plan" is meant for trailer queens. But, if all you plan to do with your antique car is go to sanctioned club events, then this is deffinitely the insurance for you. Do not forget, With real "full time" insurance, you take the collision off for the winter anyway. Sure it is more expensive but you have to think why am I putting insurance on her in the first place.
Mati, something not mentioned to you yet. Your insurance company will probably want you to have the car appraised assuming you will put replacement insurance on her. This is really a must when you consider that the book value of a 1975ish TR6 is around $500.00.

Blame Mati for getting me started. Insurance is a nasty horrible but unfortunately necessary evil. All friendly and curtious and offering tremendous coverage and savings but still manage to double their rates regularly and generally screw you over once you have to make any sort of claim. My 2 cents is this: get the cheapest insurance you can find and make it a point of fact not to drive into anybody. The Silver Wheel says no driving to the mall. This not because of an adversion to malls but so as to avoid everyday run of the mill regular driving. How are they to define what consitutes regular driving? My dollar goes to the legal minimum and don't drive your car dangerously or in dangerous situations. Maybe mall parking lots fit into those catagories. For a healthy life, avoid doctors lawyers and insurance agents.
