Triumph TR6 - OUT OF THE BARN, INTO MY GARAGE!

I don't know if I did the right thing, but when my friend said "just take it home", I did. It's a 1969 TR-6. The paint was removed about 8 years ago, and it's all brown now! I have not found any rust thru except under the battery, all else is just surface rust. The engine turns by hand, but all fuel and hydraulic systems are trash. It has a good hard top, but the soft top needs to be replaced. I'm not shure if I want it bad enough to do all the work needed. For the time being, I'm just walking around it trying to add up all the things that need doing. I have not been under it yet to check for problems there, but the floorboards and trunk bottom are sound. Still wondering if I did the right thing?

Ed,

Most of us paid to be in the same situation you face now. In my case, it's similar to putting cash in a paper shredder... and the shredder is never full...

Ed,
You did the right thing. Now do the rest!!

Ed:

A free, rust-free TR6! Don't think about it - just do it. You are so much farther ahead now than many of us when we started and you haven't dropped a dime. If you invest 10 - 12 grand you should have a helluva nice car

Cheers,
Bob

Rod,
We live in Clackamas, Oregon. Once a small town south of Portland, now a part of the greater Portland traffic snarl. That's Progress?

Ed,

I have a 69 I just finished rebuilding. Sounds like you are starting with something a lot better than me. You did the right thing if you love working on cars and then driving them in the mountains. I would think in Oregon those aren't too far away.

You can check my website for what I started with and what I finished with after 1120 hours and 3 years. Of course, I did nothing else around the house and now I have a bunch of household projects to do.

Good luck and drop me a line if you need any advice specific to a 69. (emission control was unique in that year but not too different)

Ed -

I don't know how to tell you this.

But...

does 06-06-06 (aka 666) mean anything to you?

Welcome to our little piece of HELL!

Bob

(PS - I just relooked at your orginal posting date - you posted on 6/5/06 - you may be ok! Kinda cuttin' is close?!)
