Triumph TR6 - Paint/Interior color combinations

I have 71 tr6 in need of restoration. It needs a top, interior, and paint. We are going to repaint the original color "Damison". The original top and interior were black but we are concidering going to a tan interior and top. Did they put tan seats and tops with Damison paint in 1971.

Is there a Web site available to validate what the original configuration was.

From my book TR6 by William Kimberley:

17 Damson 1968-72 Interior trim Black (68-72), Light Tan (68-69), New Tan (69-72).

Tops were always black vinyl with reflective stripes

and before anyone out there corrects me on the years, I know that the 1968 listing seems a bit odd but according to a chapter further into the book it lists the initial production run starting Sept 19 with a production order about 1500 units with all bar 51 being carb models and listed as 1968 models. Numbers started as CC 25003L for 1969

The first full year of production started on Jan 2nd 1969 and these cars started with CP 25159 and they produced 8685 TR6's.

T-Daddy- I love a tan interior in TRs. I saw a 71 with a new Tan interior at a show 3 years ago that had just been finished. The exterior was the same color as mine. My wife calls it "ugly brown",and the interior was nice.He said at the time some of the interior parts were hard to get in that color(fuzzy seals I think)and he managed to find some on a trip to England. But I say, even if they don't go together in the book, go with what you think is appealing to you.

Most of the Damson cars that I have seen had one of the tan interiors, in fact the very first TR6 I drove was a new 1971 Damson with New Tan. It belonged to a friend of my father's, he wanted to get me out of my 1964 MGB and into "a real car."

I feel that you should decide what you want to do with the car and build accordingly. The main cautionary note that I would throw out there is if you intend to compete in VTR Concours competition, make everything match up and use appropriate materials. If you go with the year appropriate New Tan, match up your commission plate info to reflect a trim color of 33 as opposed to the 11 used to indicate a black interior. If you are lucky, the car actually came with New Tan, the black was fitted by the DPO, and the commision number plate already reflects the proper information for what you want to do. If not, buy a new commission plate, match up the impression stamps, transfer the serial number and paint number over and show 33 for the trim.

As for the top, again if you go are building and keeping VTR Concours in mind, go with a good black vinyl top with the reflective stripes and zip out rear window. If not, then go with a tan top if that is what you want, maybe even consider going with a fabric Sunfast top. I have seen them on these before and thought they looked very good and are available in both black and tan. Liked it so much that I have one waiting for installation on mine when it gets out of the paint shop.

When you decide what you want, make sure you buy all your interior at the same time, from the same place. And match your carpet colour too, - to make sure you like it and that it is a co-ordinating colour.

I've seen TR's where the owner bought some here, some there, some later and nothing matches.
