Triumph TR6 - Parts & Service in Toronto

I'm considering the purchase of a TR6 next spring and would like to know how owners in Toronto obtain parts. I found three excellent suppliers in the US who have sent me catalogues, but isn't there a quicker easier local route? I'm worried that after the exhange and shippping, the cost could skyrocket. Nothing worse than starting a repair to find you're missing one part and the whole thing sits for weeks until parts arrive.

For the more difficult jobs, can anyone recommend a mechanic/garage?

Any other advice would also be appreicated. (I know, buy the best that I can afford!)

tks

Matt - Welcome to the art and fun of owning, repairing and driving a really fun car.

Check the Toronto triumph Club web-site:- www.torontotriumph.com

Join the club. Don't wait till you get your car. You can do a lot of valuable net-working before you get it.

Have fun now and you'll have even more fun starting next spring.

Parts are no problem, there is Fred at British Auto Sport in Malton who is a true expert on TR6, also there is Penninsula Auto in Oakville, also there is precision auto in Richmond Hill but mainly caters to Healy's and his prices articulate that. In my opinion Fred is your best bet - reasonable prices good advice and he only brings in stuff that he knows that does the job properly so you never get stuck with a substandard off-shore knock-off. By mail order is Obsolete Auto in Sarnia (BTW they have an excellent newsletter packed full of tips and ideas) but can get a bit rooked by their shipping rates. There is an outfit called Can-Brit or Can-Auto north of the city, STAY AWAY they are crooks, sell poor quality parts and don't refund your money when there was an obvious fault in the part.
For service is JD Auto in Rexdale, Joe is a great guy and knows his stuff, also there is a bloke named Phil in Oshawa, an ex-works Triumph team mechanic who does wonders but is far away and always booked up months in advance.
Steven

Hi Matt
Steven covered it all. My vote is for Fred also. Do not forget the spring swap meet in Hamilton...usually a few for sale there. Like Don said, join TTC and the "Ragtop" publication gives u dates for all things British over the coarse of a year. Also bookmark this BBS. At TTC web page are cars for sale. Good hunting.

P.S. I know of a red '75 for sale if interested.

Thanks everyone for the advice. My cheque to TTC is in the mail and I've got Fred on my speed dial.

Rick, if you see this message, please send me some details about the Red '75. I couldn't get your email address to work.

tks again
