Triumph TR6 - Patch Panels

Does anyone know where to buy a battery shelf patch panel to repair a rusted/corroded one? There's one on E-Bay right now which leads me to believe someone actually sells them. However, I've never seen one listed by an online vendor.

Also, does anyone make floor board patch panels for TR6's so the whole floor board does not have to be replaced? I've never seen anyone list one so my guess is that they don't exist.

Thanks for any info.

Scott,
I have seen the battery shelf panels at just about every vendor for parts, LBCarco. most likely sells them and he does sponsor this web site so he is a good choice(check moss motors on the web for pictures of the item and for pix of floor pans too but order from LBC) cheaper. Floor panel patches, when I was looking for a TR6 I did see a couple of cars with sheet steel welded or screwed into place under the seats (old floor underneath new steel on top) sloppy but effective. And 1 with sheet steel complete instead of floor pan. Like a friend said to me when I was looking buy the car that is best for you and then learn about the hobby from it, by working on it. Floorpans look to be a tough repair, best bet to see what you are in for is to log on to www.vtr.org and track the parts suppliers from there, again probably cheaper to buy at LBC.
Good Luck,

I double-checked LBcarco and they do not offer a battery tray patch panel. Moss does not list one either. Rimmer Brothers does not list one. I've not seen one offered on any of the many other sites I've perused, either. Nevertheless, there is one listed on Ebay. I'm still looking...

Hi Scott

TRF and most of the others had them but dropped the part years ago I guess not enough sales. The center section Battery can be nocked up by a Fabrication shop in about half an hour out of 18 gauge or 20 gauge pretty close bead rolls and all. If your not looking for the bead roll drains and thats all they are. No drain reliefs 10 minutes tops. Make sure you have the measurements for shearing and bends.

The floors are part of the stiffening structure if you have a very small area 6 by six cut out old tin and hammer weld in new. If you cover it it will just rot faster. Of course watch for fuel brake and wiring. Larger than that area and you will have too much distortion from heat and loss of strength for a roadster. Door sag wobbly seats etc. If there is extensive damage the inner sill is probably shot as well. Replace them. From catalogues Looks about $119.00 a side floors and 33.00 each US sills and up depending on quality. Your part lines on doors will be hard enough to get right with good stamps so check them out from others for quality.

Same parts Canadian about $425.00 a side. That should make you feel better.

Good luck.

You will find this panel offered by TRGB. Go to URL WWW.TRGB.CO.UK The have many unique parts not available from other sources. I have used a couple of their battery trays with very good luck and fit! Their download catalog really sucks so call them and order the parts and they will send you a printed catalog also. I have not seen partial floors offered but make my own with floors from TRF. Just cut the full floor to what you need and butt weld them in. Steve Yott

E gads, we let Don E. with his tr3 on becouse we feel sorry for him becouse he is out of a job and is old. Now we have another 4 banger on this site . The sky is falling!

Welcome Steve Y

Letting 4-bangers ie TR2-4 on this site is fine with me at least they have a real TR and our cars are related especially TR4A IRS vs TR6. But the buck stops when a wedge-head tries to pry into our exclusive club. No 13" wheels or hard-tops (Surrey's are okay) or uni-bodies allowed here.

Besides Don has lots of good info to share and judging by the number of posts on other models this is the only active site for Triumphs on this BBS...now if you compare with the MGB's we pale in comparison.

Perhaps because TR's are more reliable?? some how don't think so.
Steven

Thanks for the feedback. I've been to the TRGB website before and, you're right, their on-line catalog sucks. It amazes me that after this amount of time they've not done anything to make it user friendly. No telling how much business they might be losing by not having it professionally reworked.

Having a metal working shop fabricate a battery tray patch was another good idea. It does look fairly simple providing someone has the right tooling to make the channels.

Cutting a new floor board to make a patch is certainly a good recommendation. I was hoping that someone would have come up with the idea of selling two halves instead of just the whole floor board so that a few bucks could be saved and some additional aggravation avoided.

By the way, what is the correct color for the windshield frame and rear end on a TR6? Are they flat, semi-flat, semi-gloss or gloss black? I'm restoring a car that is well oxidized in those locations.

Thanks.

Hi Scott

According to another web sight. Windshield frame and rear is satin Black. The odd car may have come out total body colour though because they didn't stop production if they ran out of the black.
The info is supposed to have come from Mike Cook head of public relations for Triumph at the time of manufacture. I guess he may have had to deal with a few irrate car owners.

Scott,
I beleive the first year of the TR6 had a windshield
frame the same colour as the rest of the body, from
then on it was satin black. Lots of guys have gone to
semi or full gloss black now and it sure is alot easier
to wash, wax and care for and only the stiffest of the
pureist would slight you for it.
Hope you keep us all up to date on your progress as
you work your way through this project.
All though a alot of us have done this before or a couple of times, we still really love to hear about it.
And boy have we made alot of mistakes, you don't have
to make the same ones.
Good luck
