Triumph TR6 - POR-15

Gang,

Just got the interior out of the six over the weekend and am ready to start prepping for reinstall of new.

I have a little surface rust I have to deal with. I've heard of POR-15, but I've not had the experience of using it. The rust is minor in nature and not enough to necessitate (sic) new floors. I only want to keep it from getting worse.

Any thoughts, comments, experiences on POR-15 I might find useful?

Thanks in advance,

Don (have new shadow blue in the box over there) Hasara

Don, I've used POR in much the same way you describe, ie: trunkfloor and both floor boards suggest a thorough wire brushing and washing off as instructed vacumm out loose crap and be sure to re-insert seat mounting bolts or fill holes with something. That stuff is tuff to get off and if you brush it over the holes you will definetly have to re tap them to get them to fit.

Keith,

Thanks for the tip on the holes. That probably would've slipped my mind. REgarding washing off, what do you use. I'd hate to use a water-based product to do the initial cleaning. Kind of seems to be defeating the purpose. Does POR have a cleaning product for this purpose?

Thanks,

I'm refraining from advertising my site on here until I actually set it up with the owners (as LBCarCo has).

BUT.

That having been said. Caswell Plating sells POR product. They are one of my sponsors.

I, like Jeff, am in this for the fun. He and I are not competitors since he sells NEW pieces and I sell USED pieces.

So there.

Don, The POR kit that I bought came with all types of POR products and instructions I ordered it off the POR website. Thre was a cleaner included plus instructions on when to use hot water. Maybe Jim's guy has the same, all the products were as advertised and after doing 2 floorboards(top and bottom) and a trunk same thing plus some other spots I still have some of all left. Make sure to follow instructions on keeping other things out of the way while painting you literally cannot remove it. (black paint on the back of my hand until a sunburn took it away 6mos.)I bought the trunk and floorboard repair kit $120.00 off their site and it was more than enough product. Check it out at por-15.com and check prices with Jim's sponsor. Great products for guys like us.

I have not used POR, but understand it to be an excellent product. One of its weaknesses though is that a solid top coat must be maintained to prevent UV degradation of the product. Not much of a problem for boot areas.

Caswell Plating. Not JUST POR products but everything for plating and forging metal (another of my hobbies).
