Triumph TR6 - Portland ABFM

Thought maybe we should start a new thread on this subject. I've been to several ABFMs in Portland but never with my cars. My TR6 and my MGA are here in Alaska, so I bought the TR8 last year to have something to drive to West Coast events. Definitely planning to attend the ABFM this year. I took my TR8 on a drive with the Columbia Gorge MGA club last fall and generated a lot of interest. You know, when I was in high school, I looked down my nose at a lot of cars 'cause they weren't MGs. But 40 years - and 2 MGs, 2 TRs, and 2 Jeeps - later, I've concluded that a cool car is a cool car. Even if it's not perfect.

We look forward to seeing you at the Portland ABFM next September. We are the host Triumph club. Portland Triumph Owners Assn. You can go to our website: portlandtriumph.org for more information on our club. We are also hosting the All Triumph Drive-in at the Eagle Crest Resort in central Oregon in August.

Mike,

I have a PTOA membership application on my desk. I'll have to get it in the mail someday! I attended the VTR National in Portland a few years ago, and had a lot of fun, even with a rental car. I became a member of the Columbia Gorge MGA Club while I was getting my MG back on the road after years of storage in the Portland area. Having trailered my MGA home to Alaska, I was looking for another car to keep in the NW when I found my TR8. I'll be in Portland in May, too, and will plan to come to the PTOA meeting. Any outings the first two weekends of May?

If I get the stripped holes fixed in the Wedge block and get this thing back together I will be there and looking forward to meeting you Ken. I will be easy to spot. Mine is the one that is not allowed with the Portland group and will be treated as a HIV party.

Don,

I'll be the one with Alaska license "LASTTR." Hope to see you there.

May 9 (Saturday) we have a tour called "Papa's Toys". We take a group tour to a private auto collection in Forest Grove, Oregon. There are 140 vehicles of all types. Many auto clubs attend so the show outside the building is bigger than the one inside. Afterward we have a BBQ at a nearby member's home. By then you will have received your membership roster. My contact info is in it.

Since we last got together I have added a '63 Herald Convertible and a TR250 to the stable. will try to post pictures at some point. I have been working on the Herald for the past year and a half and it is nearly done. I'll drive the 250 this summer and start a restoration next winter.
Don
It's not the TR that we consider a pariah. See you at Bellevue.

Mike,

Forest Grove is where I grew up many decades ago, and where my TR8 lives in my sainted mother's spare garage. I'll plan to join you.

Geez, I'm sorry you had a bad experience at the last Portland ABFM. Be sure to look me up this year. Are you coming down Friday for the evening social?
I am on the All Triumph Drive-in committee so I can give you the inside dope on things. There are chalets and condos available for about the same rate as the hotel rooms. Most are two bedroom/two bath, kitchens, and patio bbqs and should be shared with others to keep the expense down. We are staying for the week following the show. We have tours planned each day. Nearby are Crater Lake, John Day Fossil Beds, Paulina and East Lake (Newberry Crater), and the scenic McKenzie highway. For those coming from the north we will have club members leading tours to the resort from where I-5 and I-205 split north of Vancouver. We will also post on the PTOA website available hotels in the Vancouver area for those that have come from afar. The resort itself is really nice. The car show will be held on their soccer pitch. Grass is always so much nicer than blacktop. Go to portlandtriumph.org for more details.
End of sales pitch.
We may go to the Van Duzen ABFM in May. For sure we'll be at the one in Bellevue. My oldest daughter and son-in-law live nearby. My grandson loves the cars.

Van Dusen is always a must for me if the weather is palatable.

Don't usually come for the social and leave Seattle area Sat. morning. If the wife is with me we stay the weekend if not, home Sat night.
