Triumph TR6 - Proper Instruments

I'm sure one of the sages can help me resolve whether the PO changed out an instrument...! All the instruments in my 71 TR-6 are Smith's except the AMP meter which is a Lucas. Was the original AMP meter Lucas or has there been a replacement done? If so, anyone know where I can get a Smith's AMP meter?

Lucas is correct for the application.

My '71 is the same as yours! Mmmm, orginal!

My '71 is also Lucas...why not, it has to do with the electrics in the car:)

A tid bit of info...the Lucas ammeter is adjustable.

Thought I'd chime in on the instruments. The amp guage on my '71 (original) is a Lucas-all other guages are Smiths. I had never noticed this before.
Mike Crane

I think that Smiths is owned by Lucas.

Rick- How adjustable is it? And what adjustments?

It is very adjustable. As you know the neddle either reeds + for charge or - for discharge ( KISS!). Memory does not serve me well here but I am sure the gauge needs to be taken apart for this adjustment...meaning there is no small hole for a mini screw driver on the back side. Once apart there is a small slotted adjustment screw that will adjust the "centering" position of the neddle. My needle was always in the discharge side and only went up to "center" position while running. I know my alternator works properly. Unfortunately the adjustment I made was not enough to "look" correct....I am still a little in the discharge side. I really do not want to pull this gauge again!
I suppose a "bench setup" of a variable power supply would set the neddle correctly but most people do not have a variable power supply lying around and a big "pot" to add the load:)

PS If anything I think it is the other way around Smiths owns (bought out many moons ago?...do not know) Lucas. Smiths Industries is a world wide company....VERY BIG! One of their plants is in Grand Rapids MI ( a customer of mine). Head office is the UK.
