Triumph TR6 - seat rails

hi guys i'm new to the site, i'm trying to find out how the bottom runner comes out of the seat track, so i can clean and paint it.i think theres some sort of limiter installed on the rail. has anyone ever taken them apart> thanks for any help you can provide, jim CC25605L.

JW, there is a detent or dimple aft of the seat connection in the top channel that acts as a stop for the inner or lower channel of the seat frame. Drill that out and the two channels separate easily, BUT you have to either re-dimple that to have the stop or better tap, thread, and insert a screw/bolt in the top channel. When you get the two apart you'll find two cylinders in each set of channels with an O ring on either end of each. fYou may find that your O rings are flattened on one side. If so I suggest that you replace the O rings while you have them apart. They're a real bitch to get off and on so plan on some elbow grease, maybe heat to soften in your micowave or in boiling water. Take care to attend the dimensions so that the new O rings do not exceed the space available and that they successfully provide the intended cushioning effect between the two channels. Send your email and I'll provide photos of the procedure. From your CC it looks like you probably have a 1970. Another alternative to consider is to chunk the things (and your old seats) and replace with Miata seats with runners attached. Minor modifications needed.

Jim,
We live in Huntsville, Rocket City USA and yes the recent weather activity was fairly close, but no damage to speak of. Closest severe effects were about 10 miles North of the city in the very same spot hit in 1996 to some of the very same homes rebuilt after that storm.

You have a colleague, friend and most knowlegeable of all things automotive in Steve Pike in Marietta. Where is Georgia?
