Triumph TR6 - Seat Extension

Hi Guys,
For all the tall guys out there I've come up with a bracket that lets you put the seat back another 1.5" and not drill any holes ect...what a difference

I added the link to the web page also

Obviously a lot of tall people out there. Site access shut off for an hour due to bandwidth! Will try later. I'm anxious to see the bracket. I'm 6'2" and kind of make myself fit, but I don't think I'll be able to do that a couple of years from now.

Brilliant, so simple yet effective, of course being 5 10 doesnt necessitate my doing this, but then again, the spare tire seams to need more room annually!

perhaps you should draw it up demensionaly and post that diagram too so people can print off to get a version machined.

you should also mock up another one and well get Brian H a set for xmas....easier then shortening the steering column eh.

Thanks...yes I'll be happy to do a drawing if people want one...sorry about the site..the more that visit it causes these delays..oh well it's free !!

Charlie,

You could charge a few bucks on eBay for something like that. I'd gladly pay!

I smell a business opportunity Charlie.Of the 20,000
or so Triumphs still on the road perhaps 10% of those
drivers would like more leg room. Potenial sales of 2000 units at $39.95 USD or you could sell the idea
to TRF. Worth thinking about.

Just got to thinking about this. Since the weight is aft of the bolts, wouldn't the entire seat pick up and bend the bracket over forward in a head-on collision? Not that you'd have much chance due to the car's size...

I like the idea and would go with it if someone could address this concern. Am I being overly cautious here? I'd love the extra room!

If you were to go forward and market the idea, there may be a liability issue if someone gets hurt - regardless of whether there is a problem with the design or not.

Sorry to rain on the parade...

Hi Don,
I know what your saying but if anything it is just as strong if not stronger than before..have a look closely at the nuts that are welded to the floor from the factory ? not too impressive. Also the original channel is 1/32" thick and my bracket is 3/16"...if anything that bracket would tear first. I don't think that being back 1.5" is any strain on any of these parts. In my case the two rear original bolt holes were stripped so I installed a longer bolt and put a nylock on the underside.
I shudder at the thought of being in a TR in an accident..there is no protection from the sides at all.. a bit more from the rear and even more from the front but it all depends on how severe any impact is. For that matter any small car..I feel safer in my TR than in my friends Miata..man that's a small car.

Charlie,

You sold me.

$39.95?

When are you starting production? Can I pre-order?

Don
D Hasara

HAHA ...I will look into making some if people are interested....I'm not sure if my friend has enough free time to weld for me or I could get him to teach me and weld them myself at his place..mmmmmmm

AHHH the joys of being vertically challenged. Another $40.00 saved.
Charlie, could you design me some peddal boosters please.

Charlie, do I get a cut for starting you in business and creating your pricing structure?
I would prefer a lump sum settlement.
I'll have my people call your people.

I think I should get a significant discount for getting the beta version :)

Hi all,

The website linked above is no longer active. Anyone have details of this bracket? Thanks.
L. S. Peck

As L.S. i went to try the link and it is no longer active. Charlie can you repost?
Michael Petryschuk

It's not much as all of the pictures are gone, but I did find Charlie's post about the brackets:

http://web.archive.org/web/20070620155140/http://ca.geocities.com/tr6bbs/SEATBRACKET/index.html

Maybe between his text and this from Buckeye Triumphs you may have enough information to piece it all together:

http://buckeyetriumphs.org/technical/Tall/TR6Tall.htm

Based on the text in the Buckeye article in the "Moving the Seat" sub-section, it is Charlie's seat mount extension even though it is not directly credited to him

Hi Guys
Sorry that website has been gone for many years..
I will gladly put the pix up on Skydrive for a few weeks and you can download them to keep .
Also the following links may help

Send me your email to chasballard AT rogers DOT com and I will send back the name / password to access pix

Cheers
Charlie

Charlie B.

Thanks. That’s exactly what I needed. I took the seat out and made the same observations Charlie cited in the Buckeye article Steve linked to. With the knowledge of his hindsight, I will make the same modifications without the bracket as Charlie did. Thanks again.
