Triumph TR6 - Shake Rattle and Roll
Several months ago I posted a thread about my car shaking significantly. I think I found the final issue and thought I would share my findings, hopfully it may save someone a few head aches. Things I did to eliminate the shaking: Balanced all four tires. (Little Improvement) Replaced one tire that we thought was "out of round" when we where balancing it. (Little more Improvement) Replaced tierod ends and aligned front end. (Very Little Improvement) Replaced front Shocks. (No Improvement) Found bad half shaft left rear and replaced, PO replaced right side only, never a good idea,(Big Improvement) but still some shaking. Replaced all four Coker Red Lines with Hankook 205/55R15, better ride, better handling. (Still Shaking). Removed tires and spun rims on wheel balancer, 3 out of 5 rims are out of round (none consentric)! This would have been a good thing to check when balancing the tires the first time. Who would have thought a 39 year old car might have hit enough bumps and pot hole to knock the rims out of round!!?? Does anyone know of a good source for good used replacement rims? Thanks for your help Ken |

Ken, Have you considered that now is an excellent time to consider conversion to wire wheels?? If you gotta buy new anyway...!! db |
Doug Baker |
Don't go wires, ya got to use skinny tires |
DON KELLY |
Though, wires DO look cool. |

You can run the tires you have on wire wheels, providing that you're selective. Dayton has 15" x 6" wide 72 spoke wheels for the TR-6. If you are running your tires on standard TR-6 wheels, you are currently running them on a wheel that is a 15" x 15 1/2" wide. If I'm recalling correctly, the Dayton wheels can be used tubeless as well when you use a tubeless tire, you'd need to confirm that with Dayton or a Dayton dealer such as TRF. I thought about going wire wheels on one of the cars at one point, but decided against it. As for myself, well, we're kind of like the Panasport poster children in that we have Panasports on three cars (only two Triumph/British) and a couple of spare sets hanging about left over from racing. |

Steve is correct. Didn't mean to confuse any one. You just can't run wider. |

Don: What's the source for those VTO wheels? Would be nice to get at tirerack.com prices. I really like them; are they the ones that "Tush" has on his white TR6? If they are 6" wide would there be an issue with 205-70/15's rubbing on Moss tube shock mounts? Anybody know? Bob |

Bob - Hap has them . Great prices and they are fairly light. Check here. http://www.acmespeedshop.com/ |
