Triumph TR6 - SMITH OR LUCAS AMP METERS?
I've noticed that there are two types of amp meters for the early tr6's and tr250's. My 71 tr6 has a Smith amp meter. What's the correct one? Lucas or Smith? Using Doug Baker's list of owners, I'd like to know what's in those vehicles by month and years. Regards, |

Benji Lucas...'71, May....1,830 after Berry's 6. All other gauges are Smiths...yes Smiths Industries has an S at the end. Company still exists today. I guess Smiths did not want to be associated with Lucas electrics:) The ammeter was fitted up to CC85737 which was end of '72. From CF1 on, TR6s had Volt meters and all the gauges where flipped with the needle facing up. Rick C |

Whoopseedaisy...I stand corrected!! Good call Rick C. My Smiths gauge appears to be stock including the spades that hook-up the wires. The face matches perfectly with the other gauges. Only the black outer escutcheon is different. Could this be a the wrong amp gauge? Or did Triumph just installed whatever was available at the time? Does anyone else have a Smith amp gauge in their car? Based on my vin# being 31 before Dan Master's CC61685LO which was built in Jan-71, does his vehicle have a Smiths gauge? Regards, Benji 71 tr6 CC61654LO built in January 1971 |

It looks like I've got a rare gauge or it's the wrong one. Based on the responses, I don't think the Smiths amp gauge is correct. I've purchased a Lucas gauge on ebay. Thanks to all for your help. |
