Triumph TR6 - Stock Valve Cover Color

I recently purchased a refurbushed valve cover. It was cleaned and repainted/Suppose to be heat resistant paint. Akyhough the cover is nice and bright in color, it does not have the same texture as the current original on my TR.
Does anyone know what the correct paint and color should be? Also, do I risk any motor damage if the previous owner did not really use heat resistant paint on the underside of the cover once the motor and oil gets hot, etc.
Has anyone had their cover powdercoated?

I have had great success over the years using polyurethane paints, pretty impervious to oils, gas etc.
I think silver was the color on early TR6's, not sure about later ones though. The one thing you want to be wary of is cheap chrome, when that flakes off and gets in your oil, that will cause damage!

Argent silver is the likely original color, but anything that suits you will work well. I've seen several valve covers PC'ed but have not done mine. I used an Eastwood Silver high temp paint, BUT ONLY ON THE OUTSIDE!! Did not want to mess with bead blasting the inside and then priming and painting. Since it's apt to see a lot of lubrication, figured the inside did not need painting. The only draw back to the Eastwood Hi-Temp paint is that it needs to see some temperature before it'll set. It remains rather soft until "fired".

Hello,

My later TR6 has also a silver-gray original valve cover, a dull color.

I have a alloy cover and I had mine ceramic coated black.

All, thanks for the info. The cover I bought has been bead blasted inside and out. I plan to have it powder coated argent silver at a local shop. Hopefully, whatever paint that was applied BTPO on the underside will not be an issue.

Well I'm guessing that since you had it bead blasted the PO's paint is no longer an issue!
