Triumph TR6 - SU Carbs !
Winter is brutal this year with record cold temperatures, all this to say I am dying to take out the TR6. I was thinking of upgrading my Zenith Carbs. has anyone experienced the SU Carbs. They cost quite a bit and I was wondering if they are worthed. My Zenith are fine, just thinking about improving my car. If you have any comments, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help ! |

If the Stroms are working why mess with it. The SU's give you a little better tuning ability but if your car is stock why mess with it? |

Don, Thank you for the advise, this was my opinion. If however 5 responses would have been in great favour of the SU,s because of experience and reliability, then I would have considered doing the swithch. I somehow have to top (add Damping oil) in the front Carb. not the one close to the firewall. Almost evry ride I need to top it off because I get no resistance from the damper. Is this a sign that the diaphragm is done and needs replacemnet. This is my first TR6, and Love every minute I spend with the car, I want to keep it a long time. Thanks again for your help and comments, Lucian |

Lucian, Hi. No, the diaphragm is NOT done. There is a small "O" ring in the dash pot and this is causing loss of oil in the damper. The carbs might need to be rebuilt also....I have no way of knowing this but for sure the oil loss is the "O" ring. There is a procedure for replacing this O ring. I suggest that since you are new to TR6 and your first post to this BBS that you contact me offline (remove the AT and DOT from my e-mail) and I will sent back to you a WEB site (that is only know on this BBS) that has some downloads that literally will answer any question you might have about your car and how to maintain/repair it. Oh YA, keep the Zeniths Rick |

Hi Lucian, I was never totally happy with my Zenith carbs..I found they needed way more attention than SU's...like you I did not like the price of SU's but I came across a great deal on a set of rebuilt ones and installed them last year...they never gave me any problems all summer...with the Zenith's they seemed to always need some attention every so often. If yours are fine I'd say keep them...and I agree with Rick it's the o-ring in the damper that's shot...easy enough to replace Charlie |

go to ebay motor Uk you can always able to find 1.75 SU for around 35 to 50 pounds. I picked one up from a chap in Florida on ebay here for $72. there may be a lot of works ahead for all those linkages and possible jetting though you should rebuild your ZS, and enjoy the car first. |
