Triumph TR6 - surplus wires found

I found 2 black wires exiting the main wiring loom on the left front wheel arch just at the point were the left stay rod of the valance is bolted to the wheel arch.
The previous owner has taped the wires to the loom, they are not connected at all.

Because they have a solid black color one perhaps might assume they are earth connections. There are no malfunctions in the electrical circuit I am aware off.

Can someone check for me if they have the same black wires exiting the main loom at the above described point and where the hook up.

It concerns a model '74 TR6.

Erik:

These terminate in one eye? if so, on mine, they bolt the fill plug on the steering rack. If they are separate wires and separate connectors on each, I'm not sure. I assume it is a left drive car?

Hi Erik
There is an earth spade on my car on the bodywork roughly below the centre of the grill with 2 black wires on a common spade.

Yes you are correct..Black is ground.
On my '71 I only have one black exiting harness there. I attached it to the front wheel arch body mounting point ( ring terminal). I think Rod is correct, it should go to the fill plug of the rack. The rack MUST have ground or horns will not work. My horns work from natural metal ground (same as you) but I think I will move it to the rack for originality (thanks for pointing that out to me Rod). Your second wire attach it to where I did or if to short (has been cut) attach to the stay rod.
Are you left hand steer? Never been to Netherlands so am not sure..curious though.

Rick,

Yes, it is a left hand driven car. Moreover it is a Californian import. It spent most of its life in Lincoln, it was imported into the Netherlands in 1999. Like the whole of the European continent we drive on the left side of the road. The only inconvinience is the milages clock versus the km standard.
I have build a small LCD display on the inside of the ashtray lit. With a closed ashtray the car looks original, I avoid speeding tickets when I open it.

The steering rack is connected to earth through a seperate lead not linked into the loom. I will take this lead away and restore the original set-up.

Thank all for your efforts,
Erik

We in Canada have same problem...we are a metric country but all NA 6s are in MPH (my bifocals do not work that far to see the tiny metric numbers:). Please tell me more about this LCD...sounds interesting.
)(rjcassoc@lynx.otg)( remove the brackets.
The wire you mentioned must have been a ground to ground connection in an attempt to get the horns working?? Your wiring harness is best choice for ground.
Thanks and you are welcome.
