Triumph TR6 - Toyota Brake Caliper
Hi guys, I installed 4 pot toyota brake calipers a couple of years ago and have nothing but praise for them. The extra stopping power is terrific, however, because the toyota calipers have more volume to be filled ( 8 pots instead of 4) the brake pedal travels alot farther down before the brakes actually engage. This freaked me out abit the first time but I quickly got use to it. It really freaks my wife. Anyway, I mentioned this little problem to a fellow modifier and he suggested installing a 2lb. residual pressure valve. It installs between the master cly. and the front brake line. Any where in the line before the brass junction. Problem solved. The brake pedal engages right up at the top of travel and feels great. To get the most out of this mod. the rear brakes need to be adusted perfectly. Easily done, pull up the parking brake handle exactly three clicks and tighten up that little square bolt on the backing plate till snug, release the parking brake and you are done. Now I'll have to hide the Triumph keys from my wife. Maybe this valve is common knowledge, I had never heard of it and I don't remmber it being disscused last time the toyota caliper subject came up. Just thought I'd mention it incase anyone else can use it. |

Thanks for the post! I was wondering how one could "heel and toe" with the Toyota caliper but with that valve it should be fine! Tim |

Where did you get the residual presure valve? I also have the Toyota brake conversion on my 6. Derek |

Hello, From what model of Toyota did you borrowed these caliper. Cheers, JGC |

Use the calipers off a '79 to '84 Toyota 4runner. These work with the stock rotors. Derek |

Jean, You can check the archives or the Buckeye site but I think mine was from an 89 Toyota truck non 4wd. DL, My valve is made by Wilwood, the brake guys. Cost about $20 US. Available at most speed shops. |

The Toyo caliper you are looking for is off the solid axle four wheel drive, gas engined, four cylinder pick ups and early four cylinder 4Runners with solid discs. Works just fine with the stock TR6 discs. There is another version of this caliper that has a wider opening that can be used with a Cressida ventilated disc. This conversion is more work as the disc must be modified and there is not a lot of clearence between the caliper opening and the width of the Cressida disc. Help it along by using the .875" bore early Alpine rear wheel cylinders (Lucas-Girling number 64673804). See the VTR site for test data on the solid disc Toyo conversion with these rear cylinders. Best of all, they are an absolute direct bolt on. |

Thanks Chris for the suggestion. It never ceases to amaze me that whenever I think I've heard of almost everything, a list member proves I don't know so much after all ! I'll be installing mine soon. |

Your most welcome David, glad to be of service, however, I can't take credit for this fix. I just stumbled on it, thank Dan Masters. He is a wealth of knowledge about things British, American and electrical. |

Personally I think we ought to appoint Dan "God in training" and give him the top spot when the big guy steps down. Don |
