Triumph TR6 - TR 6 rear disk brakes

I was just wondering. Does anyone know or has it been done, to convert over to disk brakes on the rear of a TR 6. If yes I would like any information on who has done it or where you can get the conversion. I have a TR 6 with a TR 250 engine that has 3 webers on it. The brakes have been scary at times in the passed.
Thanks

If your doing the conversion because you want to that's one thing, but if your doing it because you feel the brakes on a TR6 are not adequate that's something else. I find the brakes on mine just fine. Maybe some of the other guys have some issues with them. I think you should be looking at what possibly could be wrong with your brakes. Especially if your front disks are wonky. The majority of the braking power comes from your front brakes which would mean if you install rear disks you could still have problems.

Calvin,
Scary braking can also happen when the brakes are working perfectly! Badly worn shock absorbers can allow the front end to nose-dive under heavy braking- the rear end can then start to swing around. Rather alarming - but not the brakes at fault.

Calvin,

Go "join up" as a member and search 2003 archives under TR6 for "Big Brakes." As long as you don't mind giving up the parking brake, contact Mike Munson down toward the bottom of the postings on a ready to go rear disc set up. Another option is going the four piston route up front and using larger diameter rear wheel cylinders. Some of that is in the same series of postings.

Calvin,
you could also simply upgrade to Toyota 4 pot front
calipers and lager rear wheel cylinders.
Easy conversion, check the archives, but agree with
Doug that there is probably something wrong(worn out)
with your braking system if it is not doing the job right.Perhaps the front calipers need overhauling,
new fluid, new pads, new disk. Or all of the above.
Check these out before moving on.

Calvin,
If you havent allready done so make sure the rear drums are properly adjusted - if thats not done occasionally (say once every 10 or 20 years! like all those previous owners of our cars) the front will tend to lock up easy and there will be poor overall performance.

Another option for brake upgrade (and I would argure the most cost efficient and performance boosting) is to change to performance brake pads like EBC or Hawk.

Gotta say here that now I drive my TR6 frequently, brakes seem very adequate. I know there's plenty of friction area so suspect somethings not working right. In fact, I drove down a 10,000 ft mountain last night (Full Moon)and was surprised how well and effortlessly she braked from high speed, with no fade. Don't make extra work, fix the brakes you got, and don't trust the PDWA to tell you of a problem - that was a good idea for a year or two but on any car w/miles (and years) on it, it ain't gonna work.Jack her up and have an assistant push on the pedal and see which wheels work (or don't). Must finish as have to go for a drive. Peter.

Yeah -go ahead and rub it in. Hey - at least I can go 50 miles in the same direction.

Yeh, Brent, I envy you that: I can go 50 miles in one direction, but not 60 - or I drive into the sea.Wiggly roads can make up for some of that but I miss the vastness of the continent - can't have it all. Peter

Rear Disk Brakes.

Here is a site that explains exactly how to install the rear disk brakes. Sounds like cake but as our colorful and illustrious group pointed out: Why would you want to?
