Somewhere, some time ago,was posted an article, complete with LOTS of pics re converting a tr-6 to su carbs.Of course I can't find the ---- thing now that I'm looking for it! Anyone able to help? Thanks. |

Dave, I don't recall having seen this, but the conversion isn't that difficult. I see non-member after your name, so register as a member to gain access to the archives. There were a few good threads on this over the last couple of years. Do you already have the carbs? Depending on what you get, they will basically bolt on. I made minor mods to my Z-S throttle linkage to use with the SU's. Check the archives, lots of good info there! Rod |

Dave I did this job last winter, it is more or less a straight bolt on job as Rod says. I got a pair of SUs from a TR7, got them overhauled by the makers, the only thing I had to make was longer linkages as the carbs are closer together on a TR7, but all that reqired was a couple of lengths of 5/16" dia rod with the TR7 levers brazed on. Thanks all....much appreciated.Rod, the carbs are hs-6 types, from a Volvo I believe.Should be a "bolt on" situation. When I do the throttle shaft/bushing o'haul, I'll leave the front shaft a bit on the long side;the throttle links should line up just fine.Ron, sounds good.....any problems fabricating/adapting the tr-6 choke cable assembly to the su set up? Thanks again. |

Rod et. al. -- what SU needle profile works best for the stock TR6? Rick O. |

Dave I used a single wire for the choke which fits easy to the SUs choke linkage. You need the choke cable from a PI car or if you can't get one in Canada just use one wire of the double cable. Ron |

Dave-If my memory is correct, you will need to change the angle of the float bowls on the Volvo carbs so that they are horizontal instead of 30 deg. I did this by swapping the position of the float bowls and the adapters. Or you can contact Joe Curto for the parts and advice. The carbs I used had fitting for individual choke cables and required lengthening of the stock cable or buying the PI cable as suggested. Early SU didn't have tubes for the crank case vent hoses and you are on you own in fabricating some sort of vent system. Early carbs used fixed needles as opposed to the springloaded "swinging" needles us later on cars with emission controls and the shank diameters are different. Berry Price |
