Triumph TR6 - Tr 7 Tranny into TR 6????

I haven't looked at it yet, but I've got a chance to buy a TR 7 engine and five speed transmission. Does anyone know if that five speed will go into my 71 TR- 6?? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Highly doubtfull. As you know the TR7 is a 4 banger and thus a different engine at the back end. Have to say..this is the first time I have seen this question asked.

Wow, You're right, Rick. I took a look at the the engine/tranny out of curiosity and it's like night and day between that one and mine. For openers, the bell housing appears to be much larger in diameter.
If you know of someone wanting the engine and transmission, she was asking $100. Comes with part of the instruments etc. Condition???

That 5 speed Trans is adaptable to a Rover V-8 and may be more valuable than you might think.

That five speed transmission (LT 77) fits on a bellhousing from Rover Sd1 six cylinder engine wich is the same block as TR6.

Does that mean with the Rover bellhousing the 5 speed might be installed into a tr6, anybody ever seen this?Jeff

Yes!
Bellhousing from Rover SD1 78-86 (six cylinder)
LT 77 five speed gearbox
clutch plate and release bearing from TR7
clutch cover Sachs ( volvo, ford.. )
You have to shorten the top cover casting and do some work with the propeller shaft.
Have done this on my on TR6, and it worked just great.
Even the speedometer cable fits.
No cutting, welding or sawing had to be done.
Sold it a couple months ago and the new owner liked it as well.

I did not know about the Rover 6 cylinder only the v8 and I doubt that the v8 bell housing will fit the TR6. To the best of my knowledge no Rover SD1 6 cylinder cars were imported to the US, only the v8s.

This has become a very interesting thread and It has jogged a few memories of when Rover were developing the new SD1 in the early 70s, The object of the company was to capture the middle management market and with an Italian designer and a Buick V8, there was also the need to make the car more affordable for the family man and the 2500 Triumph engine was chosen as a starting point, this was turned into a single OHC with both 2300cc and 2600cc options and many can be found in breakers yards all over UK, Automatic transmision models were favorite but many were 5 Speed, I will have my spies out over the weekend back home!
