Triumph TR6 - TR6 Fuses

Can anyone advise what amp fuse(s) you are using? Looks like the MOSS cat is calling for "all" to be 35amp. The blown one I removed (fuel guage, temp) is labled 12amp Lucas 25 A. Shawn 74.5

Mr. SSD, which fuse concerns you. Tell me and I'll tell you what amperage it should have according to the wiring schematic for the car.

Don't forget. DO NOT use the same amperage US fuses.

Hi Doug amnd Don,
I installed a new radio (Retro Sound/Model 1) over the winter and now starting to use. Seems like it is causing ignition fuse to blow (25a/ 12 Lucas). Since replacing it with USA 25a fuse seems to be holding/. Radio worked for a bit... now does not. Calling manufacture Monday to toubleshoot. Ordered some Moss TR6 fuses to replace all the USA 25a's. The radio power/presets line is connected to the top fuse box clip (assesories), the radio ignition wire is clipped to the fuse box third clip down from the top. I cleaned where I grounded the radio but have no way to check.

Some of the new radios draw a tone of power and should only be hooked up to work when the car is on.
I take it the top fuse is a purple as they are hot all the time. What color is the 3rd down?
DON KELLY

Hi Don,
#1 orange/white, brown
#2 Brown,purple
#3 white, green/white
#4 white, purple/white
and all covered with grit
Can you tell me what clip(s) you have your radio on. I am suspecting somethings up with the radio because did not blow a fuse all weekend with the radio not hooked up.

Hey Rod, tell him what one my radio is on HAHAHAHA.

Seriously Shawn. The attached pic is of my radio area. On this car no radio. It would be better to hear the purr of the motor.

On the Wedge I have the power come from a switched acc. So it's after the car is on.

DON KELLY

Shawn.. yes, all 35AMP Lucas.

Don, Ken, Doug,
I replaced all the fuses. Still no radio activation. Talked with place I purchased radio. They suggested hooking up directly to battery to see if the prob is the radio or new radio wiring. Radio worked fine.
-Are you aware of any other sources I could tap into for radio power? For some reason I don't seem to be getting right juice from the fuse box.
-If I take thr TR to a radio installer, anything I should be cautious of..

Thanks.Shawn.

SSD Mr.

If you hook to the purple ,that is power all the time.

Do you have Dan's schematics?
DON KELLY

Hi Don,
No but I have the Bentley Manual. Is is the same?
Shawn

Not even close, and besides not always correct. Go here and copy to your records because you use these frequently.

This is the site it came from. .A little good stuff

He's the godfather of TR6 electrical stuff.
And besides ,he's a nice guy.

Sorry Shawn... should have mentioned the Masters source book and the definitive help it provides. Contact 'Advance Auto Wire' via the web or buy same from your usual source.

I connected to an ignition affected source of power so the radio would shut off with my ignition. I'd forget to turn the radio off otherwise and kill my battery. I can't tell you right now what wire that was since I'm not near the car (out of country). I'll watch this thread to see if it gets resolved. If not, I'll tell you what color.

So..radio is now working. Tested circuits in fuse box with test light. Lead that showed power on left side of fuse box picked. Purchase "piggy back" connector so as the existing purple line could still be connected and yet I could add the radio power line to this circuit. Seems good for now. All other elec; brake lights, guages, etc., work so we will have to see if it holds. Thanks for the ideas! Shawn 74.5

Purple is for power when the car is off. Horns, inside lights...
DON KELLY

Now that I take a closer look at the schematic I see the white/pink wire for power to the radio for your year and mine (76). This would ensure that the radio goes off when you shut the ignition off. However, modern day radios will also have a wire for the digital clock and radio station memory which will go to an "always hot" wire like the purple Don mentions.

Ken, Don,

Thanks for your input on this one. Your suggestions helped me to solve the puzzle. Decided to replace the fuse box later this week just to further clean things up.

Got one, brand new, if you want it.
DON KELLY

Don,

Thanks but already ordered one from MOSS. Shawn.
SSD Mr.

Why are you ordering from Moss, and not one of it's dist. ?

No problem though, shipping would have probably equaled the part.
