Triumph TR6 - TR6 Tires

My 1976 TR6 has always had redline tires but I am giving up on them and planning to put new tires on it this spring. Am looking for suggestions as to what tires are currently popular these days.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wayne- There are modern Red lines if you like the look.

The answer to your question can be found in the "Archives". This question has been asked many times. Go into the ARCHIVES, pick a year and search tires.

Rickey- What's up?
DON KELLY

Rick, thanks for letting me know about the archives. Now I just have to find the time to look at all the info.

Thanks

Wayne,
Was not tryin to get out of answering you but this subject has been discussed many times and no point repeating the info. 2009 has some redline discussion and 2008 is the beginning of the rdline tire thread called TIRES with a little talk about other tires. 2002 "Nother tire question"

Ha Dony
Not much. Waiting for spring so I can get out to the garage, put on the heat and do some over due fixes.
Heading down to FL end of next week. Taking my dad down so he has a car down there. I hear it is cold down there though...yikes!

You and your family doin a move or not?

As of now we are stayin put. Maybe at the year end or closer to production for Boeing in Charleston
DON KELLY

Don from Seattle to Charleston. Now that's gonna really be culture shock. Rick when you going to FL?

Small town ,south you mean?
DON KELLY

Don, it'd be hard to call you a damnyankee since Washington was not a state way back when, but if a Connecticut Yankee had it tough in King Arthur's Court, a Seattle transplant in a southern culture center will be a real shock to both!!

Size wise if you want to run the stock steel wheels or the slightly wider Panasports, look no further than 205/70-15. It puts slightly more rubber on the cantact patch while being about as close as can be to the stock rolling diameter in a semi-modern tire that will give you absolutely no rubbing problems. Some brands of 215/65-15 also work, but most I've seen will rub so check the manufacturer's specs closely in that size since not everybody uses the same set tapes when they call out a given tire size. If you go and start fidding with wider an/or larger diameter wheels, all bets are off. Measure everything including the car and its components for clearance.

Wayne. I too had old redlines and wanted to keep the look but get modern and get safe so I bought from Diamondback Classics in Conway, South Carolina. Bill (owner) suggested the Hancook brand and convinced me that I'd be very happy with the performance and the look. I am. As Don says they are expensive but they are indeed sweet. I went with 205/70/15's.

Good goin Steve. A consise answer.

Doug leave this Friday around 2:pm.
Should be going through Chattanooga some time late Sunday afternoon. I will yell out the window as I go by Huntsville.
Only going down for a week. Getting my father and his car down there.
Rick
Rick Crawford

Rick, If you're going via Chattanooga, you'll have to yell really loudly, That's about 100 miles NE of Huntsville!! Have an enjoyable and safe trip. Reroute down I-65 sometime and we pop a top on a bubbly pop or three!! Are you flying back to Ontario?
db
Doug Baker

Doug
Saw that on a map (looking to see how close to Huntsville). Will yell loudly.
Yes, wife and I fly back following Friday.
Will definitely take you up on the pop some day.

Rick

Ken, thanks for the offer to send photos. I will take you up on that.

Any time Rick. Ken, you too and anyone else of our neighbors to the North traveling South. The door is always open and a fine single malt or undistilled brew.

Doug Baker

Thanks db... not sure why (since I am retired) we are always in some sort of rush when northbound or southbound. We feel compelled to do the trip in two days... foolish.

Some day I'll have an awakening and enjoy the trip... not just the destination.
Ken Shaddock

Ah Ken, you miss a lot that way. Used to drive across Texas, Arkansas, and Tennessee in a day. A long day, but missed a lot of Texas along the way.
db
Doug Baker

Well, we've taken this one so off track that I don't see where a few more meanderings will do any harm.

Rick, where in FL? And I would have to assume since you are going through Chattanooga that you will be coming down I-75 into Georgia. If so, that does take you through Marietta. If it's still light when you get there, a look to your left as you drove over Roswell Road and you can see the Big Chicken.

Who says there are no "cultural attractions" in Georgia?

SteveP1

Steve,
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is hosting it's 17th EXTRAVAGANZA at the International Hotel in Atlanta on 25 March. Wonderful opportunity to sample some of the finest scotch in the world. Over a 100 malts will be offered for sampling along with a gormet buffet meal. Come on down and indulge in some real southern culture!! Highly discounted rate at the International for the evening. Bring Mrs to shop at Lennox Square while you enjoy the Elixer of the Gods.

Drambuie
DON KELLY

Don

While I may agree that the Drambuie is a fine after dinner drink, and even after a few malts. Have you tried Glava? This is a nice change to the "Drambie". Having lived on Speyside for many a year and having visited many haunts in search of the next finest malt, still have to tell the wife "maybe the next distillery" I favour the Glava to the Drambuie, but then again I am open to a challenge....oh for the tyres well the car and the boxes are getting prep'd for the trip from NS to Ont.

Don, I heartily agree...a fine single malt!!

Now for Wayne's sake.
Back to your regular scheduled broadcast.
DON KELLY

Doug, Steve, Don, Rod, Les... it's okay. I covered for y'all and got in touch with Wayne outside of this derailed thread and gave him the scoop & pix on Diamondback's Hancook Red Lines... if that's the way he wants to go.

I better not learn to appreciate a fine single malt... seems it makes one wander off course. BTW, I can do that very well with a Crown Royal whiskey or Plymouth Gin on the rocks... plus, plus, plus.

Cheers!

Man talk about CRS!...had to re-register as a new person. On my Dad's laptop 5 miles south of Knoxville and thought I would post.

Steve, will look for the Chicken tomorrow noonish and yell HELLO to you as I go by. Will be staying near St.Petes on the Gulf. Weather is not looking good.
Will stay in Gainesville tomorrow night then be in St. Petes by 1:00pm.
Today finally got to drive (later in the day mind you) on clear roads without it snowing. Did not pick the best few days to drive to FL !!!!

Will post more tomorrow.

Cheers and here is to a good single malt.

Hi Guys:
I know all this tire stuff is in Archives but I'm looking at Yokohama Avid T4 - 205/70/R15 on Tire Rack.com. They're listed as a performance tire and the price is right; @ approx $68 USD ea. - $500 to my door incl duty & taxes. Anybody purchased these and have a comment? Thanks.
