Triumph TR6 - TR6 Windblocker
I recently purchased a windblocker from Jeff at LBC. I will give you a brief product review here. The item is well enginered for it's use it is shipped with 2 mounting brackets (mount to car) 2 blocker brackets mount blocker to brackets 1 blocker and 4 replacement bolts for the car mounts All mounting pieces are finished in tuff and attractive black powder coat. The install took about a 1/2 hour briefly (car mounts go under the hood support brackets new bolts are to replace the ones you remove) Blocker brackets screw one on insert blocker insert other mount then screw down. All fittings are torx or allen key style. Blocker is clear plexi. It fits quite well (I can still get my full tonneau tucked under it). As for performance it works exactly as advertised it cuts down wind noise and general cockpit turbulence quite noticeably. I purchased it to make my cruising more comfortable at highway speeds and this it helps quite well I can carry on a cell phone conversation no problem. Worth the Price-Yes. Regards, Keith 72 TR6 |

I have a roll bar on my Tr6 that I put a piece of plexi on, works great, but lately I've been toying with the idea of putting a Tr4 surry top on my Tr6. Has anyone tried this. Curt |

Curt, What thickness plexiglass did you use? How did you attach it to the roll bar? I just installed a roll bar in my 74 and was thinking of trying your system. John |

John I used about 3/8, the heaviest that Lowes had. I traced an outline of the roll bar and cut it out on cardboard about 1 inch oversized. I taped it on and the raised my top to see that it would clear. The first one I put on the trunk side of the roll bar But I ended up making a new one for the seat side of the bar so I could make it drop down farther toward the floor, worked much better. It drops about three inches below my top cover. I drilled and tapped holes in the roll bar so I could use small-premade knobs to remove it easily. You could size it to fit inside the bar and drill some small holes in the plexi and use black cable ties. Smoked plexi might look nice also, mines clear. Curt |

I have always thought a strong fine mesh would work, and look nice. Any thoughts on that idea? DON K. |

A surrey top from a TR4//5/250 will fit a TR6. The base tubs are the same on all of these cars and the windscreen frame has the plugged holes for mounting of the removable tops. If you don't have one already, expect to pay dearly as surreys are a highly desirable, tres chic item. On the downside, surreys don't really look "right" on a TR6 due to the rounded shape of the surrey vs. the squared off corners of the TR6. The hardtop for the TR6 looks "right" for it because it is squared off to match the rest of the car. Unfortunately, Triumph did not choose to have a removable center panel like that of the earlier surrey. The surrey top on my TR250 is NOT for sale, nor am I willing to cut up my TR6 hardtop to experiment with fabricating a removable center section. Now if someone out there has a TR6 hardtop they are willing to donate to the cause (go ahead and laugh, I laughed too as it was being typed) , I would be willing to experiment with it. Between our gang of idiots and a friend that does graphite epoxy composite fab, we could probably come up with a removable center section TR6 hardtop. The trick would be fabricating the removable center panel to rear section interface. The surreys are very substantial in this area as opposed to the thin sheet metal section of the TR6 top. Now where is that tape measure................ |

SteveP I haven't gotten my catalog or the quote I asked for but Revington Tr manufactures surrey tops. I'll let you know what I find out. Curt |

I saw a Porsche Boxter and it had a fine mesh windblocker, looked nice but I don't know how well you could see through it for backing up etc.The B.M.W.Z3 has mesh behind the seats and glass between to see through,Erik '72 TR-6 |
