Triumph TR6 - Transmission Overhaul
I'm starting the transmission overhaul this weekend. I recall a discussion about preferred lubricant. Haven't checked the archives, but will. Meantime, would anyone comment on what beyond the Overhaul Kit, I might expect to replace? Anything particular I should watch out about? I don't have OD. Thanks. db |

Doug-If you have the Buckeye article on trans. overhaul, it pretty much covers all of the bases. I just finished going through my trans.&od. I replaced the counter shaft and used the 1" length shell bearings. I bought a countershaft from BPNW and found that it was slightly below the min. size and the finish was somewhat rough. Returned it and purchased one from TRF for over twice the cost, but it was equal to the original. Probably some thrust washers will have to replaced to bring the end float of the main shaft gears back to spec., but you won't know untill the box is disassembled and checked. Also, the 2nd gear top hat bushing is a candidate for replacement. Might as well replace o rings in the top cover too. Some parts like sychro rings and the case bearings get replaced even though they might last for many more years just because it is convenient. Berry |

Berry, Thanks much. I would have missed a great deal of what you offered. I do not have the Buckeye Article. At least I don't think so. Might it have been on one of the cds? db |
