Triumph TR6 - Trip Odometer Reset Cable

I have a '71 TR6 (CC 60260 LO) that is missing the Trip Odometer Reset Cable. The speedometer may have been replaced but there is no evidence either way.

While I was under the dash replacing the ignition switch I examined the back of the speedometer and found a spot that looks like where the cable attaches. There are no threads or fittings, just a hole in the speedometer case that looks like a keyhole.

In the center I can see a square post that looks like the piece that has to turn to reset the Trip OD. The slots on either side of the circular part of the hole appear to be the only method of securing a cable.

This cable and associated fittings do not seem to be available from parts suppliers. Moss doesn't even show it. Does anyone on the board have a source or work-around? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Charlie

Go to any search engine and search for "Jaeger Smiths Instruments". I was pleased with Nisonger in New York who re-built my speedometer.

EC, I saw the cable in either the Moss,TRF or Victoria British catalog. My 71 has it, and I haven't pulled off the dash to see where it goes. Did you just get on your back and look up there? If so, and you can see anything, let me know here or email me and I will try to get up there and see which one is the right place. Also, I will look and see if I can find the catalog with that cable in it--the reason I noticed it in the first place was that I couldn't find the reset when I first got my car, but later did, right where it is supposed to be!

JL,

Yep! On my back (with the heater duct hose out to give me room to root-around) I saw the place where it should connect to the speedometer. There was no threaded fitting, just a hole as (perhaps poorly) described in my post.

To save my back, I was actually seated on a car ramp placed by the open door. I had the battery diconnected so there was no glare from the little courtesy light. I'm curious what the fittings actually look like.

it just slips into the hole and turns slightly.

Mine falls out all the time. I've gotten adept at reinstalling it. <G>

Jim,

Thanks for the insight. I get the idea that DPO X 2 had the same problem!

Oh, for his dustbin! What else would I find?

Tinkering,
