Triumph TR6 - Trip To England

I am planning out a trip to the UK. Am likely to stay in London and Castle Combe area. Does anyone know of or recommend any places to visit to purchase/see Triumph parts, etc. while I am visiting?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi Shawn

In London you could try the TR Shop on Chiswick High Street - it's a couple of miles from the north/south circular (so about an hour's drive!). They have a flyer with some pretty good offers on their website (www.trshop.co.uk I think). There are other suppliers around London - Moss and Quiller, I think? Try the TR Register website - they have a list of suppliers on their website (www.tr-register.co.uk)

Hope that helps

Hi Shawn,

I went to England for 7 weeks over the summer. I saw the recommendation for TR Shop London above. Although the store is great and I have bought things online from them, their store is basically a warehouse. There really isn't anything there to "shop" for. If there are any needs you have it may be worth seeing if they have it and picking it up to save on shipping, but going to the physical store otherwise wouldn't be worth your time.

I'd recommend two places to go. The first is the Coventry Transport Museum, in Coventry of course. The museum is free and has all kinds of different models of Triumphs as well as cars built in Coventry. There's a good bit of history of the auto industry of Coventry there as well. I'd also recommend the British Motor Heritage Museum near Gaydon. The museum is a bit harder to get to since you'll have to take a cab or a bus. I didn't have a car so I had to take public transportation everywhere. The museum is nice and has a lot of interesting concept cars as well as production cars.

I know I haven't helped with finding parts, but I thought those two museums were really a lot of fun.

Moss is near Brooklands on the West side of London. Well worth a visit (Moss and Brooklands!). Don't forget you can claim back the VAT on parts as long as you do the correct paperwork.

All: Thanks for the suggestions! Shawn

Shawn Castle Combe is one of the most beautiful places in England and also has one of the best racing circuits, Give London a miss! and stay around the cotswolds, visit 'Bourton on the water' it has one of the most unique car museums and it is in the prettiest village. If you go into London and bump into an Englishman say 'Hi' from me

Shawn:
If you are in the Cotswolds you must visit the village of Stanton. Go to the Mount Pub and Inn and order a pint (hand pumped as I recall ), sit out on the terrace, (weather permitting of course), and savour one of the most picturesque views in England.

If you are in the Cotswolds try to make it to the Morgan Factory in Malvern Link. Not obvious how to get to the factory, ask at a gas station. It is a hoot to walk through. Lot of craftsmen doing hand work right in front of you. Very nice people and as I remember quite an attractive receptionist. You also are not very far from Prescott Hill Climb. When I was there by chance it was Triumph day. I had rented an MGF but they let me in anyway. Ditto on the Castle Combe area, very nice.

Moss Motors London outlet is very close to Heathrow. While you are there pick up the UK version of the TR6 catalogue. It's about 3 times as thick as the North American one and has lots of technical tips.

If you're in the Cotswolds, swing south through Bath and the Mendips and visit Revington TR in Somerset. The Haynes International Motor Museum is down that way too.

Cheers,

Shawn - I'm sending you an e-mail with a photo of the Triumph monument which was unveiled in April, 2000 in Canley on the site of the S-T factory where our cars were "born".
