Triumph TR6 - triple carbs

Hi iam thinking about installing a zs triple carb kit.Has anyone had this installed on their tr6? Iam thinking of buying the carbs & goodparts manifold from jeff at paltech polishing.Just wondering if this set up works well.
ian

I know someone with a low mileage unit (about 100 miles) for sale. He might still have it

Don why is he selling it? Do you know who rebuilt the carbs,do you have his email thanks ian
IAN

Didn't like the way it was set up and he is NOT a good carb guy so he is installing his FI setup instead.

Ian, remember to verify the inlet port spacing if you are thinking about buying this used set up as there are different inlet port spacings between early carb TR6s and late carb/PI TR6s.

Don't let me steer you away from Jeff. Great product and PURRDY 2

I am just wondering what HP will be with triple SU HIF44?
Paddy Kan

Why use 44's and not 6's?
DON KELLY

Ian,
What was your decision? If your'e still interested, let me know. I've had mine for a couple years so you can use my experience to help.
benji

Hey Benji- How's the snow in Sammamish. Haven't heard from you in a while. Up for a late winter/early spring gathering?
Don
DON KELLY

HIF44 is newer and neater, I never use HS6. but 44 is easy to adj

Aren't the 44's smaller?
DON KELLY

Don,
Remember? I run a Subaru dealership. Therefore, I've got a choice of which AWD vehicle I can drive. Now for the TR-6...I drove that sucker a day before it snowed with the top down and boy was it cold!! People were lookin' at me as if I was cRaZy!!
Let me know if your'e having a get together this winter/spring. Maybe at your place? I really would like to see your progress with the tr-6.
benji

Don,
HIF44 is 44mm(1.75"), HIF38 is 38mm(1.5")
HS6 is 1.75'( 1+ 6/8, my backward reasoning. after 2 Guinesses you can figure this out) HS4 is 1.5"
cheers

WHAT...Don has made progress on his 6??

Hi Benji.

So now I need to trade my HS6's for 44's?
Great!
DON KELLY

No real need to trade the H6s for the HIFs, but I can confirm that the HIFs are much easier to adjust. The only caveat that I have on the HIFs are that for any US spec applications that I can think of off hand, they were geared more toward meeting emission standards than performance. They along with some of the late US spec application HS series have a little poppet valve in the throttle plate that lets air bleed through in order to lean out the mixture on throttle chop type of deaccelerations. In turn, it sticks up and interferes with the air flow across the throttle plate during normal running.

What we used to was remove the throttle plates and either replace the late with earlier ones or cut the little poppet, braze the hole, and polish things down flush, then reinstall.

Benji i went with jeffs carbs, tried your email with no luck! How do you like yours?Ian

Ian,
"What do I think of the triple carb set-up?" It's a love/hate relationship. They're tempermental when the weather changes so I'm alway fiddling with them. There wonderful because I get good gas mileage and good performance. The super cool at car shows. Not a lot of people have triples because of the intimidation factor. (I've found them to be fun once you understand the basics.)
I've gotten to the point were I can feel, hear, read spark plugs, and smell what kind of adjustments I need to do with the carbs. If I need to go to a car show that's a couple hundred miles away, I adjust them for fuel economy. If I want to zip around in the city, I adjust them richer.
This may sound crazy but...with the knowledge I've gotten from the triple carb set-up, the car now feels like a person speaking to me. (No I'm not crazy!!) She tells me how the weather is treating her. She tells me if she's gobbling up to much gas etc. I just read her responses and then I adjust accordingly.
Since you've purchase a set, I'll be glad to help you in any ways to sort them out. Just take the word "DOT" out of the email address.
By the way, I'd like to throw my shout outs to my PEEPS Don and Rick.
Cheers and Later gators...

benji
