Triumph TR6 - Triumphest 2004

Anybody planning on attending Triumphest at South Lake Tahoe this weekend? We figure this is as far north as the party will get, so we are meeting up with some Portland, OR TR owners to tour in on Thursday.
Hope to see some fellow BBS'rs there........

Dang- After a Week in Bend OR,then the Portland weekend and then a week in Orlando my wife finally said "ENOUGH". Dang and my bro lives just outside of town too. But the age old Question. What is more important,TR's or marriage?
Don K.
DON KELLY

Uhhh.......does that mean you go solo??? I am a bit of a rabble rouser, just ask Rick C!

Rod
Now there is a saying I have not heard for a long time. Rod, stiring up the pot makes for some good fun.
If I may be so bold as to answer your question and maybe twist Dons' arm a bit...ofcourse he is going!
Don, have not heard from you that u have your 6 on the road...Yes...no?

Rick Crawford

In my case. The TR can be replaced my marriage can't.
(Not until the attorney fees are covered) So my wife wins out.

To All:
Travelling through 4 states (5 if you count confusion!) and over 1250 miles, the TR6 made the trip a lot better than I did! It ran flawlessly, averaged a little over 20 MPG, and we met up with about 220 other TR's for a great weekend of fun & games. There were over 60 TR6's, and got to meet Dick Taylor and look over his turbocharged TR6. Anyone that hangs on the 6-Pack Website knows who Dick is, and he has contributed several articles to the 6-Pack magazine. Charles Runyan was there with quite a layout, and the only one that really showed up with any merchandise. As close as Moss is, I was a bit disappointed that they only made a token showing, and VB had no display. Driving highlight of the trip was a Friday AM tour around Lake Tahoe, 72 miles, in perfect early fall weather. Except for an early morning (6 AM) run in the high desert from Winnemucca Nevada to the Oregon State line (it was really cold) the top was down from Wednesday through Monday PM return home. One of the best times we have had with the TR6, and I think my wife has regained confidence that it will get us back home! The only bad news was a pain travelling down my right leg (most likely sciatic nerve) that necessitated a break every 1 to 1.5 hours. Wish you coulda been there!

happy moToRing!!! (what's left for this season)

Rod--"(5 if you count confusion!) " lol!!!

I wish somebody would rig a cruise control for our TRs. Any ideas more elegant than a hand-held stick on the pedal?

Rick O.
Rick Orthen

Rick,
I'm with you, but be careful or Brayford will be in here saying you'll be looking for seat heaters and obstacle detectors for the TR6 before you know it. I was thinking there must not be any straight stretches up there where Bill lives. We were so bored coming back through NV that we took a picture of ourselves at 80 mph w/camera on the dash! ;)

Rod
Rod Nichols

Rick,
here's a link right to the page for cruise controls for Triumphs...I saw a Healey with the small electonic one and he said it was good

GEESSS Charlie, you could also have given the link to the seat heaters.
Rick C
Rick Crawford

Thanks Charlie. But I wonder how any of these generic cruise kits would bolt up to our twin-carb linkage.

Rick O.
Rick Orthen

Rick,
Most of these work the same way...an actuator, vacuum or electromechanical (whew) pulls a chain or rod hooked to the linkage. Usually not to hard to locate the actuator....but this is a TR6, after all. This may be a winter project for me....after Miata seats!

Rod
Rod Nichols

OK since I've been goaded into expressing my opinion? ROD..:)

You can keep the TR seats replace web and update cushion foam? New web is easy to do and gets the pressure off the thighs lets the blood circulate a bit better. We have heated seats in both the dailys. I've never used them? Wife thinks there great?

Looked at the Miata's seats just in passing lately due to others comments. Yah there pretty uhh common I guess is the word? Do they have a heat option?

We do have straight unending highways here as well Rod. The 400 series. If I have to be somewhere under pressure they serve well. But there's no fun in driving on them. Out cruising they would be my last choice.

Remember the TR and other Brit sports cars of that erra were designed for an outing. Not a bloody 1250 mile marathon..:) Off the main track pop in here for a pint and lunch lets look at that shop type of thing. Its not a Buick?

Now I'm up for improving anything. Cruise is one option I've never liked. My mind at least tends to wander. Also have a thing about machines being in control?

Next time your rubbernecking stop and think what happened with the go pedal? You slowed to look right? Yep the old left foot let off the gas. Cruise won't unless you step on the brake! Better hope the guy in front rubbernecking is also on cruise? Or you maybe have installed that obsticale detector?

I know many of you take the cars on long trips North American style. I think the biggest problem is getting rid of the Buick go till we get there in luxury mindset and adopting a lets go for an outing. Two different plans!

Now as for the dash pictures at 80 with all the bells and whistles and add ons possible on a car these days. That camera may have caught a wild and crazy pair?

But in most cases just two folks napping...:)

Bill Brayford

As always....Bill comes up with a humorous and poignant reply.
Now if we could only get that young at heart guy to retire and get his TR "on the road again".

Hay Rod, at least you where in a TR6 rather than a Buick...sounded like a fun trip.
Rick C
Rick Crawford

Rick,
I was torn between posting the story here or 'Best summer memory in a TR6 thread'. All things considered, probably our most fun trip ever, start to finish! And I got the t-shirt!
Bill...someday we'll get together and tip back a wobble pop....or two?!?!
Thanks.....Rod
Rod Nichols

Rod, I get that thing down my right leg too on long trips, thinking about putting in cruise and miata seats this winter.

Charlie, thanks for the site on cruise controllers.

Does anyone have experience with any of these units
or similar ones?
Chris
Christopher Trace

Bill,
Give it up man, yer outnumbered!
Chris...I talked to some friends this morning at our "year-ending" run to breakfast. They have convinced me to try acupuncture, all previously having the same symptoms! Think I'm gonna try it. I'll keep you posted....and I do like the seats, hate to think about pulling them.
Stay tuned.....

Rod
Rod Nichols

Rod,
It could be that were just old farts now and can't
do 15 hours straight like we use to.
Christopher Trace

Chris....like I always say: You can grow old, just never grow up!

Rod

I won't tell Bill I'm thinking of installing cruise control in my 6...in case he won't let me visit him at his shop and enjoy a couple of pops !!!!!
Charlie
Charlie Ballard

Ok all you poster guys first off how did I wind up with all that white space at the end of my post? Maybe the sight thinks I'm so long winded they reserve extra???

Rick this young at heart guy spent the day along with Moose building a rottisere for Marks new dragster body he brought out of the states. Not unusual except we had to build it on a trailer so he could take it to 5 places for different deals. Plus family stuff where did my weekend go. Geeeees I don't know

Rod I got your pics via E-mail and I stand corrected. No napping there. Your having way too much fun! I didn't think that was possible in a parked TR there buddy never mind at 80 mph? Wow adding heated Miata's seats and cruise control lord knows what you might get upto. Thats not your wife right? You picked up one of them Nevada showgirls? Good looking lady!

That oughta keep you busy sending out e-mail requests while I state my case.....:)

The tr seat has a front bolster instead of waterfall. Seat is a bit too long in the front as well by todays standards. Cuts off circulation. Can be redesigned by any good auto upholstry. Its your car why get something close? Someone said a set of good used older Miatas go for $800.00 is that number right? Real exotic customs aren't much more? OE will probably last longer though depending on your seat time.

I punched Miata seats into google and can see why there out there used? Everybody is in the custom seat bus. for Miata's. Now that irritates me. Not fond of large scale hand me downs from anything. But if I drove into the beerstore parking lot nice TR beside a Miata. I hope to win with the crowd eyeballing. If the Miata owner comments. Those look like my old seats? It kind of puts a new light on the situation don't it?

Going from Jewel to Junk is not my style.

Charlie that old truck beside the shop has an electro/mechanical O/E Cruise from 1979 still working. I never bothered to take it out and put it in my runner. I don't think there safe new or old! Your always welcome for a wobbley as long as you remember to shut off the cruise before you hit my door...:)

Cruise control in a TR? Kind of like putting on Teddy Bear Jammys just before bedding a hot date. Not my idea of a good time. Opinions may differ.
