Triumph TR6 - trunk side tank

I have a question about a small fuel (I think) tank mounted on the passenger side of the trunk in a 69 parts car I had. Anyone know what it's for? I can't find it referenced anywhere.
Curt Anderson

It is an expansion tank for the fuel vapors. Mine is powder coated a nice black.

Must have been added as a post "improvement" as the 69 did not originally have an such vapur system.

Michael Petryschuk

I didn't think it did but I did answer the question on what it was.

Maybe it wasn't a 69. What the comm.#

Hi Curt,
Look at that Don, another TR owner from the out west sunshine state.

The emission tank assembly, as it was called, was the early years of emissions control (Evaporative Loss Control System). this tank was on the 70,71 car years and apparently the late 69 car year. All fuel vapours and any over flow of gasoline went to this tank then the vapours eventually to the carbon canister up by the engine. The 71 year had 3 connections to the top of the gas tank...one at either end of the tank and one at the filler neck. Even when I was doing my restore on my 71 (I bought the car in boxes) I could not find a description anywhere on how all the parts on top of the tank came together. There is a copper "X" connection where the 3 tank connections and the line to the emission tank connect (cross) then heads to the carbon canister. It was (is) a confusing arrangement. Even the TRF catalogue does not show it.

Don K. do you have the X affair also??

I'm soon to yank the tank and I will find out.Did you do diagrams when you redid yours?
DON KELLY

Thanks all, I've been looking at this thing in my pile of old parts wondering about it for awhile. I thought that’s what it was probably for.
Curt Anderson

If he did not Don, I've got photographs.

I have some misc stuff, but I've seen pictures of your car and I doubt I have anything you'd want. Let me know what you're looking for.I have a 74.5 car and don't need most of the earlier cars parts.
Curt Anderson

Don, my 71 has that little tank. I just had to replace the fuel tank, which required me to figure out what that little side tank actually did.

The new fuel tanks have extra openings that have to be sealed off. I order from Victoria British, and the tank had some extra openings which I hopefully sealed with bolts and washers. But my garage smells like raw gasoline in the AM, so I think I need to pull it out and check everything.

I think the side tank is an excellent place to store some Jack Daniels and set up a pump to pour shots while ya drive
DON KELLY

John,
Make sure you use neoprene washers as they don't rot with fuel

Sorry for delay in answering. I think I have a good excuse though.

Yes I have a drawing. The 70/71 tank has 3 breather holes on top of it which all get used to connect the 5 miles of black pipe to.

I like Don,s idea with the JD.
