Triumph TR6 - Trunnion Mystery

Am in the middle of a major rebuild, and decide to replace the passenger side trunnion, so I ordered one from TRF. It screws on to the vertical link about a turn and a half and stops cold. I call TRF and they send me another one. Same thing. I call Dave at TRF and he says he tried it on 2 vertical links at the shop before he shipped it and it wnet on no problem. Anybody else had this experience? The only conclusion I can come to is that the replacement links (not N.O.S.) are different from the originals. They said they would send me another to try but I have a very strong feeling it won't fit. I'm stumped.

If the threads on your vertical link are clean and look OK, is it possibly bent?
Tom

I have just rebuilt my front end, and noticed that they are handed (one has a left hand thread)

They have different part numbers.

I'm sure the link is not bent because the old trunnion spins on and off as nice as can be. I'm also sure it's the right part number; have discussed this aspect with TRF at length. The trunnion will also start on the link which tells me the thread is the right direction. All I can surmise at this point is that the new vertical links and originals are somehow different. Anybody out there replace a trunnion (made in Taiwan, not NOS Stanpart)lately on the original vertical link?
Jim Vandenberg

I used two brand new trunnions from the TRF Magic Kit, I'm not sure where they are made, I think I threw the boxes out the other week. (I will check when I get home). They were packaged in a plain White box.

The Links on my 6 looked origional, and the new trunnions were a little bit tight but they did not need to be forced.

Just screwed on a new trunnion from trf today. Went on with no problem. Was made in Taiwan. The vertical link was an original.
Steve

Thanks Colin and Steve. I guess I have a bad vertical link, 'cause I just tried my third trunnion with no luck. It's still a mystery to me since the original trunnion goes on and comes off so easily. Plus, there's not really a lot to go wrong other than the threads, and they certainly LOOK OK. Well, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a new link as well. BTW, the TRF folks have been EXTREMELY cooperative during this process. As I said, they've sent me 3 of these things(2 of which I'll obviously have to return)in quick succession to try to help me solve my dilemna.

I use TRF for most of my parts and have never had any bad parts to date. I think they are great. Just wish they had more in stock as I have back orders that date back to March!
