Triumph TR6 - 'Turbo lag'

Another problem that I have encountered with my TR. I have situation best described as the dreaded turbo lag...as I accelerate it is sluggish initially and as the motor spools up then I have lots of power and decent acceleration. It seems off the line a Hyundai gets the leap on me and later I catch up and pass

The car runs fine otherwise ie idles smoothly, no ping, no miss. I removed the retard, & EGR and timing is set 18* BTDC. I do though seem to go through gasoline that would bring smiles to the OPEC nations.

Any suggestions?

What's going on with your dashpot fill?

Check the vacuum advance line (off distrib to intake manifold). Make sure it isn't blocked & that the seals are sound.

Hi,
I had similar problem and I solved it by enriching my mixture by 1/4 turn.

Answers to the questions posed

Dashpots are filled to correct level.

There is no vacuum advance line, mine is a '75 and only was a retard which I disconnected.

Your your 18 BTDC timing at idle? If so, it may be retarded way too much. Timing is as follows: Total = Static+Mechanical+Vac Advance-Vac Retard. The mechanical is fixed at 16, and the vac retard is fixed at 16 also (which you've disconnected). For your total 18 BTDC condition off idle, you should be seeing then about 2 BTDC at idle which would be fine.
