Triumph TR6 - Turn Indicator Faults

just when everything seems working perfect a new problem arises...

my rt turn signals no longer work, i hear the switch (flasher) opening/closing at a very very rapid rate (too much juice getting through?)my left works fine

This does not blow the fuse (purple side-out)...BUT

if I turn on the hazard switch, it rapidly blows the fuse.

since the turn signal power feeds routes from hazard flasher through hazard switch, is it the hazard switch or am i misled by the wire routing.

can someone describe the best way to test this (by exclusion)??

thanks

The rapid clicking of the turn signal says to me, check the bulbs, either with a volt meter or just change 'em out for some new ones and then see what happens. While you are at it, check the sockets carefully.

If that doesn't work gradually dig deeper into the wiring. All this assumes that everything was working great and then stopped and no other work has been done anywhere near the wiring for the right side of the car.

Bob, sound like you've got a short circuit.Try disconnecting your flashers one at a time.

Joe is the winner of the cupie doll..

regardless of how many times I went through every connection, i kept popping a fuse. I disconnected and reconnected lights, connections, bulbs etc but still notyhing worked

in the end it was a combination..a bad replacement hazard flasher unit (rimmer Bros supplied, poor quality from far east) and also an intermittent ground break on the rear brake light. Those two in combo were enough to pop the fuse..

all is well again,

thanks

Way to go Bob!! Persistance and attention to detail works everytime!

Happy motoring ...

I had the same problem, but my pull out Hazard light on the dash didn't work, but the lights would flash. After about 5 hrs i pulled out the Hazard switch-You must remove the tach first, and took the switch apart and cleaned all of the copper contacts. It all works now. The damn british...all the signal/flashers go through the Hazard switch. Clean the switch and make sure all of the contacts are making contact when either the switch is pulled out or pushed in.

Dan Masters book explains the "thinking" behind running everything through the hazard switch, sort of makes sense when he describes it!

In my case, the switch was good, but a combination of an intermittent ground and a faulty hazard flasher switch caused my evils.

of course, one never knows when the POD will return

The only way to deal with these weird electrical problems is probably to periodically pull all the connections, clean them and put a little electric grease on them.

I spent hours last year working on fixing that kind of stuff. Eventually, I replaced most of the bulb holders and cleaned every single connection I could get to. Almost everything works now! Except the little courtesy lamp on the transmission tunnel--I can't get power to it and don't feel like pulling carpet out.

Dan Masters' book is excellent, by the way.

John,
Your interior light has a bullet connector (actually three of them) a short distance, maybe 12"-14" or less from the light, yes hidden under the carpet. That connector is the most likely culprit of your light failure. That or a bad bulb:)
