Triumph TR6 - Voltage Sabilizer on a 73

I have been fighting both my gas gauge and my temp gauge readings for a long time now. I have replaced the sender, the thermostat, the regulator, the gauges the stabilizer and have not been able to fix this bad readings. I have one more thing that I will be trying here pretty soon and that is replacing the complete alternator. But it dawn on me that I might have the conections to the stabilizer wrong. Can anybody tell me where in the four prongs that the stabilizer has the two wires need to be landed? I have pictures of the way I have it connected if I can share it with someone. Could one of you guys peek under the dash and tell me where yours are connected? Thanks!
Abner

Hi Abner

There is a B side that the dark Green solid goes to and then the I is light green to the gauges. The 2 gauges should be the only items on the LG wire. Goes to temp gauge and then bridged to fuel.

Make sure your speedo is actually grounded. Run a clip from the stabiliser to a good known ground.

Alternator should not have anything to do with readings I can see?

What are you getting?

Thanks Bill
I forgot to mention that I do have a ground wire attached to the stabilizer allready. I will check when I get home if in fact I have the wires right, would it work at all if I didn't?
Abner

As far as I remember you can't connect the wires to the stabiliser the wrong way, one connection is female and the other male, as Bill said, make sure your speedo earth is connected

You are right Ron,you cant connect it the wrong way, they do have male aqnd female configurations. Now, does anybody know if you can by-pass this little gem?
Abner

Hi Abner
The purpose of the stabiliser is to "smooth out" the voltage going to the gauges etc and to make sure it stays in a range they can handle. I don't think it should be by-passed.

Hi Abner

What are your gauges doing thats causing concern?

Both gauge sender devices are just resistors in a sense so if you remove the wire at the sender for temp it should go low. Then ground the wire and it will climb to hot. Fuel gauge tends to peg and thats hard on the gage works so not a good idea?

Thanks guys,
the issue with the gauges Bill is that they are both reading incorrectly. I beleive they are both reading high. I dont think I'm overheating and it shows 3/4 + and i can be almost on fumes and the gas one shows having 1/4 +. So there is something wrong there. I have tried, like I said replacing the gauges, the stabilizer, the thermostat, the sender and I'm still reading the same thing. So my next idea is replacing the alternator (becasue I've tried replacing the internal regulator and didnt do anything) and stabilizer again. If that doesn't do it, *##!%%**!!!....... aghhhhh! hahahhaha, been there huh?
