Triumph TR6 - Voltage Stabilizer Install

Anyone have any experience replacing the VS? Repair manual says remove speedo but want to know if you can achieve by reaching up under dash. Looks pretty tight. Thanks. Trying to de bug cause for fuel gauge to read only @ a quarter when tank is full and temp gauge does not show any activity. Shawn 74.5

Easier in my opinion to just pull the speedo through, not hard to do.

Yes sounds like the VS has gone south.

Really the only way to do it is to pull the spedo. You will never get your hands up there let alone a screw driver.

Shawn, There is a cheaper method than the usual VS
Go to your local Electronics store, not RS. and get a small Regulator. Cheaper and better

Thanks for all your feedback. Based on research, seems lots of folks have had problems w/ the solid state VS. Mine is the orig.

Don...is there a model number or something more specific I should ask for?

I tried to get it out without pulling the speedo but could not get enough oumph on the shorty screw driver.

There really isn't much to the mechanical VS. Mine failed due to corrosion on the ground point from the little "board" to the metal case. You can see that on the underside where there is a little dab of varnish or something like that.

I removed the "board" from the metal case, cleaned up the contacts inside, and put it back together making sure the case and contact area were clean. Used a dab of dielectric grease to prevent oxidation, and it worked like a charm again.

Also the nice thing about those are you can run separate ones for the 2 gauges and they stay cool.
So cheap might as well

My fuel gauge does the same thing. Try grounding out the sender. If fuel gauge goes up,that's the problem. Some one of these days I'll fix it instead of using a yardstick!

It was the VS. We were unable to pull speedo out to get behind it for access so had to remove VS from underneath dash. Tough but can be done. SSD

FYI . I am going to buy a bunch of the afore mention chips and set them up for easy install.
