Triumph TR6 - Water Drainage

Well, the front fenders have come off and I have found this rubber tube that drains water from the scuttle vent. What were they thinking when they designed this?
There is a small dent in the sill to let the water run out, otherwise, it gets trapped behind the fenders.
I intend to extend this tube below the sill so at least if there is any water, it will exit below the vehicle, has anyone done this?
Here's a pic, the tube is located above the antenna grommet.

Tom- Check the archives on this and contact Walter Dobbins. I think he has pics of his design.

Tom,

I've made holes just above the door hinge on both sides, shortend the tubes and pulled it through the holes, so any water can poor out easily.

Hi Tom
I extended the tube and brought it out a hole drilled at the bottom of the mudshield behind the front wheel, works well in the Scottish climate though it is worth checking the pipes are clear occasionally, they are quite a small bore.

Hi Tom

Good advice already, Run a new tube to a new hole just behind the front tires, both sides, if you go to a hardware store you may find a "fitting" for dressing up the exit point. I painted my the same color as the inside wheelwell and it has worked perfectly since early eighties.

Walter,
Does not the mud and debris thrown up by the wheel argue for a different location (maybe you only drive on dry pavement??). Have you had blockage of the outlet at any point? What fittings from the HW store are you suggesting? Does your hose extend into the wheelwell or terminate at the splash guard? Thanks.

Tom,

Keep those pictures coming. I'm sure you'll put a nice car together. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

Doug,
You are right. That's the reason I've made holes by the door hinges. The tube is about 7 centimeters long, it will not be blocked by debris, and if any leaking does appear,Í'll get wet feet. If you make a long tube on the inside of the front fender, a leaking tube is not noticed.

Doug,

Mine exits at the bottom of the separator panel directly to the rear of the tire. The termination is a 90 degree plastic fitting from hardware store, so it points down, never clogs. Painted same color as wheelwell, hard to notice it's there.

That's what I did as well, been there for several years now without any blockage problems, also worth putting a SS grill under the air intake on the later models to keep leaves and debris out.

Walter, Ron,
Soungs like the preferred solution. I'll try it for a fit and see how it goes.

Gents:
On a parallel theme how about full inner wheel well shrouds front and rear to prevent mud and salt from being thrown up to the u/s of the fenders.?
I believe this feature would have slowed the meltdown of the body on my TR4...
Possibly any in the aftermarket? or has anyone fabricated their own?

Rimmer Bros in the UK supply them for the 6, bit on the pricey side though.

No need to go so far. You only need to go to Ontario to find a TR6 guy who makes them. They are for the 6 but probably will fit a 4.
