Triumph TR6 - Which Spark Plug

Well I hope that everyone had a great holiday, lots of food and beverage and great company. Pete in OZ hope the Barbie was good (poor Vixen).

Anyway, what in your opinion is the best spark plug to fit with the standard ignition...Champion N9Y or NGK BP6ES?

And for electronic ignition?

All the best and happy motoring (Price of gas (petrol)in Nova Scotia is 70.1 cents/litre)lowest price in over 5 years.

Les,
Thanks but Vixen was not on the menu. Even Australians are not that uncouth !

To the plugs...my favourite is also the NGK.

A few years back I had three plugs fail : two new from the box and one with a low mileage. All were Champion.

Now they may have fixed the quality control problem in the meantime but I changed over to NGK at the next plug change and have never changed back.

Some good news there on the fuel price. Enjoy it while it lasts.!

Cheers , Pete.

I have used Bosch Platinum Super RO 968 plugs since I got my TR6 as it arrived with them in place and I bought replacements a couple of years ago. I am quite pleased with them as is my buddy Steve who swears by them and runs them in his '74. I'm running a Pertronix Ignitor with Pertronix Flamethrower coil. I tried gaps of .040 and .035 but went back to the stock spec .025 as I found the bigger gaps ran well only for a short period and then seemed to give trouble. Don't know the reason for this but I still have the original 125,000 mile engine in the car, not having had the time to pull it and install the rebuilt higher performance unit.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members a very Happy New Year and offer hope of an early Spring and more happy motoring. The usual computer problems have wigged out my e-mail so apologies for any I may have received and which have gone unanswered. Special greetings to fellow members Charlie and Pete whom I have had the pleasure to meet and spend some time with. Check out all the other forums and one will clearly see that this is the premier TR6 forum in the TR world. It is a pleasure and a privilege to me a member of such a great group. Best wishes to all for the new year. Weather update - only about an inch of snow on the ground over Christmas and temps around the 0 C mark. Not TR weather but we are not getting the really nasty weather bombs that have plagued the rest of Canada and parts of the States. Most assuredly, we will get ours too but it's only 3 months to Spring so we live in hope.

Cheers,
Bob

Hey Bob....are you coming to Ontario this year ??

All the Best to you and the family !!

Bob,
Given plugs gaps expand as the plugs wear I suggest you may have helped the process along by taking your gaps out to begin with.

By the way what was the logic behind your choice of 35 and 40 thou on the plugs?

Pete.
