Triumph TR6 - who do you recommend to rebuild stromberg carburet
Project is moving along... spent the past few days installing a new wiring harness. Lots harder that I thought but the harness is an exact replacement so far. Ran into a problem with the ignition switch wires and old solder. What I thought to be a quick fix turned out to be an afternoon Thanks to Blaine at Moss Motors in the Technical Department he told me how to get the anti theft key lock off. What a job trying to hacksaw in close quarters but the shear bolts are off. To my question --- who would you recommend to rebuild my Stombergs. I live in Florida but assume have to post to wherever. The other challange --- I dislike those big clunky rubber bumpers. The plan is to replace with a conversion eleiminating those. Has anyone done this and what are your recommendations? I am nearing the underwater investment mark -- few unexpected surprises. Moss has me on the Loyality Program :) My wife has me the dog house program. |

I recommend Ken Dolhonde, goes by the name of Poolboy on other sites . In LA and the best around. |

That Louisiana Not Las Angeles |

Russ: I second Don's motion except for location. I have corresponded and spoken with Ken and he is very knowledgeable and has helped a lot of guys with carb problems with advice in the forum in addition to doing rebuilds. I've gotten some very good advice from him. Find him on the "Triumph Experience" forum as Poolboy in Sandy Hook, Mississippi. Cheers, Bob |

And all this time I thought LA meant Lower Alabama..... |

A Georgian would think that! |

Steve, I thought that was what Don referred. Anything South of Montgomery!! Russ, I rebuilt mine myself. Remains to be seen if I was successful. Also powdered coated them. db |

"Anything South of Montgomery" Isn't that Mexico? |

Doug, for the most part we are talking about stuff south of Montgomery. I had to take some mandatory geology courses for the southeast related to raw material/ore/clay extraction as a result of my particular engineering major. Since those courses, I've thought of "LA" as those areas south of the Atlantic Seaboard Fall Line in eastern Alabama just west of Columbus GA over to the Tallasee/Wetumpka area just northeast of Montgomery and then running slightly south and west toward Demopolis and Cuba AL toward Meridian MS. There is a big geological change along the fall line where it transitions from harder rock types to sedimentary types in the East Gulf Coast Plain. If the rock types in a given part of Alabama are primarily sedimentary, odds are that you are in "LA." |

Will there be a quiz tomorrow , Processor? |
DNK |
Steve, All noted but North Alabama is also sedimentary...primarily limestone with more subterrean voids in Madison than any other like size area in North America. There is also karst throughout the area which makes for risky building site selection. db |

Well, that's what I get for trying to pull something out of the distant memory banks from courses taken 35 years ago that I never used once they had been completed (i.e. the rocks must be in my head). I went back and looked and there is a split in your neck of the woods. The eastern part is more like north GA and has harder rocks while the western part is in an upper coastal plane with more sedimentary rocks. And now for some carb related content. I've seen some of poolboy's musings. He definitely seems to have a good handle on things. Here's a link to one of his posts which also provides another source for carb servicing: http://www.britishcarforum.com/bcf/showthread.php?101172-C-D-S-E-V-carburetor-question#6 |

Poolboy got a nice mention in this current Moss Motoring |

I sent them to Joe Curto in College Point, NY. The lead time is presently 10 to 12 weeks for rebuild but I heard he is the best . Guess I will have to wait until I get those back, then I can fire up the car and make sure the mechanicals are all working. Once have that tested , I will install the interior. I am holding off just in the event that something mechanical is not working such as transmission and access would be hindered with new interior. Thanks for the responses. |
