Triumph TR6 - zero rust

Hello

My car is in the process of getting a new paint job over the next 3-4 weeks

I was thinking about getting the body shop to spray a product called " ZERO RUST " on the frame and other black areas of the underneath. I don't have any rust problems on the frame etc but wanted to keep it maintained. There is also a proudct of the market called " PICKLEX-20" that also gives protection.

Has anyone used these products before ? Is this even a good idea ??

Appreciated !

When I was doing the full body-off restoration of my TR3A from 1987 to 1990, I painted every part and the frame all apart. Now after 15 summers and 82,000 miles, the bottom of the floors, under the fenders, the frame, etc is still as it was in 1990. And I still take second at TRA and VTR National Concours Shows. The only protection I have is the paint.

During that 15 years, I figure I drove my TR about 4000 miles in the rain - but never in the snow.

Rick and to all the others who wanted to know . . .

Last August I felt very weak and it took 3 days of tests at a medical clinic and 10 days of tests in 2 hospitals before they determined I was suffering from bone marrow cancer plus 4 secondary ailments that sometimew come with that. I was in full blown Multiple Myeloma - Stage 3-B.

After 3 chemo treatments, my oncologist told me in mid-December that the cancer was in remission. But there is never a full cure for cancer and for one of the secondary conditions I had, there is no published cure. But amongst doctors who fool around with experimentation, there was a pill that solved the cancer in 30% of cases like mine, and 15% had the secondary condition disappear. The pill is THALIDOMIDE. Yes - the same horrible pill that caused so many deformed babies 40 years ago. It's making a come-back.

Also I was very, very anemic. Normal is from 135 to 175 for hemoglobin in a healthy man. Mine ranged from 85 to 105. The 105 was after the blood transfusions. But when I went off the chemo treatments, they gave me weekly injections of EPREX that boost the red blood cell count and my hemoglobin number went up to 159. That's like running your TR with 159 Octane instead of 85 Octane. You get the picture ?

A year ago, I used to walk with the morning walkers inside the local mall. I was doing about 11 minutes per kilometer. In early March this year, I was down to about 20 min/km. By the end of April, with about 15 to 20 km/week, I'm down to 10.8 minutes per kilometer - about where I was before all this started.

So I guess that things are looking good for me right now. My doctor told me that I was fit enough to do the "Tour de France", but he didn't say by bike or by car. He told me to come back and see him in 2 months. So that tells me that I have a lot to be thankful for.

Thanks for all your kind words of encouragement.

My brother and my neighbour are at the stage of spraying on the vinyl wash and primer on all the tub and panels for Frank Redmond's TR3A that I was restoring. Rather than stop the restoration, I "hired" them to continue the progess under my guidance. The rolling chassis is all painted and ready for when the body is finished.
