Triumph TR6 - ZS cold start
A friend here in Boise has a Jag-yew-ar XKE V-12 fitted with the (stock) ZS CD175’s. Only two carbs of the 4 are equipped with chokes. When the car is warm, even from being garaged, it starts right up. But if it has to spend the night outside in the cold, it will not start. This would be anything below 60 degrees F. A cold night in the mountains, and he waits till late morning to get it started. Then it runs great. 15 MPG on the highway. He recently rebuilt the carbs as per the Buckeye site, with no change at cold start. I’m not much help to him, as I switched to SU HS6’s. Any thoughts or comments? Thanks in advance, Rod |

When you acquire a Jaguar you do not get a car, you get a way of life. Your friend needs to develop an appreciation for sleeping in late on a cool mountain morning, followed by a liesurely brunch. This will much enhance his appreciation of this fine automobile. Tony p.s. If that doesn't work, he will just have to get rid of it. I would be glad to help. |

Tom...he is a doctor, and knows about ether....and said that is what you would have to use on him so Tony could get the car away from him! Seriously, will the temp compensators make enough difference on a cold start to present a problem? Any hot tips out there? Rod |

Is he sure the "cold start" valves are opening up all the way? He may not be getting all the choke that's needed. What about depressing the accelerator with the choke on while cranking? Not "pumping", just holding it open. Brent |

What is this "cold" you speak of? Is that when it gets below 90 in January and February? John |

Wakes up cars, puts people under. Just clowning around, surely needs more fuel. |

Cracking the throttle could offer a clue. The cold start system should open the throttle a bit when the knob is pulled, and if it does not do this the extra fuel provided by the cold start valve would not be drawn into the manifold. Tony |

Tony (Tom, do you have the ether ready? We'll need some left over for the car, ulness we take it after lunch!) |

AJ, I did a little unintentional huffing of lacquer thinner the other day, all I got was a mild headache (and a nose full of signal red). Usually well below zero when unintentional ether huffing begins here, but on the first start of the snowblower, it could be warmer. |
