MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 1966 Buick 300 Special
I am going saturday to look at a 1966 Buick 300 Special engine. How do I tell if it is a 300 cu.in. motor. He said it has everthing but the starter, and that is all I know. Would any one in Ohio be interested in the engine. Thank you. Denny |

I thought it was only the 1964 model that had aluminum heads on the iron block. |

Is it not worth buying if it doesnt have the aluninum heads. Denny |

Depends on the price. You'd have everything except the aluminum heads which is not a bad deal. I bought a pair of bare 300 heads many years ago for about a hundred bucks, and there are still some floating around. Jim |

its a 1967 block that first came out with the alum heads. |

Jim it's a $150.00 before I try to talk him down. CJD it was the 1964 only one year that came with the aluminum heads. From my research the intake is cast also. That year it no longer offered the four barrel carb. Denny |

Well, that's worth the money if it's rebuildable. You get the entire short block and all you need are the heads and intake. I'd get it. Jim |

isn't the crank shaft alone worth almost twice what you are paying for the motor to someone doing a stroker? |

1964 was the only year for the Buick 300 with aluiminum heads. It was available with both a 2 bbl & 4 bbl intake. !965-1967 300 engines had cast iron heads with both 2& 4 bbl intakes available. All had a crank that can be used as a stroker for 215/Rover engines, but with mods required. The cranks are not that hard to find as they were produced for 4 years, probably not worth more than $100.00. The '64 heads pop up from time to time at various prices. I would buy any set I found under $200.00 in good condition. Take that as a standing offer if anyone out there has a set for sale. To identify the 300 motor, there is not a seperate vally pan as with the 215/Rover. The intake manifold goes head to head, eliminating the metal valley pan gasket. As previously stated, only the 1964 had aluminum heads. A complete engine ight be a good buy even without the aluminum heads. It is a bolt in in plce of the 215 if you can get hood clearance & offers lots more torque & HP even in stock form, but with a weight penalty similar to the Ford iron block. |

Also, the 340/350 crank can be used in the 300 block, increasing displacement substantially. Jim |
