MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 215 into Spitfire?
Hi folks, Does anyone know if a 215 can be reasonably easily transplanted into a Spitfire. No, i dont mean a Spitfire aircraft :-)) If yes, are there any problem areas etc. Guy at Holley wanted to know. Regards, Danny. |

I haven't seen a 215 in a Spit but have a photo somewhere of a small block Chev v8 in one. There wasn't much of the Spit left when they were done!!! Check the site below for a nice GT6 conversion. http://www.carcentric.com/GT8.htm |

Thanks for comment Phil, i'm sure the GT6 would be a cracker to drive. Surely the forum members can help with this, even a 0-10 on feasability?? Danny. |

One of our club members here in Kansas City has a GT6 with the 215 installed. Fits pretty well, clearance for carb a problem. The problem with Spits and GT6's for engine swaps is the placement of the steering rack which is behind the axle center and forces the engine to be raised quite a bit for clearance even with a modified oil pan. Another weak point is the rear axle, not easy to change and not terribly strong although I understand that some racers have a way of fitting a Nissan diff housing. |

It has been done. See http://www.britishv8.org/swaps/spit35l.htm http://www.britishv8.org/swaps/v8spit.htm For other Spitfire V8 conversions, see http://www.britishv8.org/swaps/examples.htm |
