MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 300hp
Is it possible to achieve 300hp from the 4.6 Rover V8 What setup would it be. Cheers Mark |
Mark |
Yes, replace it with a real 300+ hp V8 Chevy or Ford. |

Mark...answer is 'YES'....contact Gelnn Towry for build setup ...oh, if you wanna run a Chevy or Ford engine, buy a Chevy or Ford! |

When my (chevy) v8 MGB conversion is done, I'm getting a vanity tag that says "M CHEVB" |

Mark http://www.v8developments.co.uk/4_6s3cam.htm Should get there with 4.6 and maybe a bit more from FI Paul |

Thanks everyone. I really do want to stick with the Rover engine. I have a 4.0L which is making about 265hp and was wondering if its worth going to 4.6L It would be nice to break the 300hp barrier. It would be relatively cheap as crank rods and pistons are about £750. Was thinking of 4.6 with my Peter Burgess heads, Edelbrock 500cfm carb, Huffaker inlet or similar, RV8 manifolds, Viper typhoon cam. Will it make 300hp? Mark |
Mark |
Stick a vortech supercharger on the front of the motor, and you'll make 300 NO PROB. Just don't let the pressure get too high or you'll blow a headgasket or two..... Justin |

Mark, I use the Real Steel Stump puller in 4.6 and changing to RV8 over festive period The next step up would be 5.0 with Wildcat heads which should make 340bhp. Paul |

An Eaton does a good job. http://www.mgbconversions.com/photoalbum/variousv8s/JimBlackwood.htm ;-) |

Steve- Or use a real 300 hp Buick. Chevy & Ford are not the only other engines out there. Think Buick 300 with a bit of head work. |

Paul The Wildcat heads look superb. What induction is used with the wildcat heads? Presumably the existing inlet manifold wont fit! Am I better off getting the heads or 4.6 conversion first. Would love a supercharger. If there was a bolt on kit I would probably go for it but would like it all to be out of sight. Mark |
Mark |
Mark, Its a bit all or nothing as I believe Wildcat will (road wise) only work with larger capacity http://www.roverv8engine.co.uk/index2.htm Not sure about bolt on or out of sight but Frank in Thailand at moment has researched, there is a thread on Owners board with details. Paul |
