MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 302 Oil Pan
I am doing a 302 conversion. I have a '91 cobra 5.0 and am going to keep the EFI. What is required in oil pan swaps or mods for this motor? I know some other people who have done this but I do not have a good sampling. Thanks Rich Conte |

Rich, Ford puts out a kit call the Fox kit, which gives you the shortest water pump, but also converts you to V-belt rotation on the water pump, it has the rear sump oil pan, I believe that I paid about $250. for the kit. You will also have to notch the cross member for oil pan clearence, if your useing the chrome bumper cross member. Steve Carrick 74 MGB 302 "Barney" |

Rich, I may be wrong, but I think you're good to go with the stock pan. Does it look like this?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/5-0-302-1983-THRU-93-FORD-MUSTANG-OIL-PAN-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38657QQitemZ7952511638QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V The stock pan on my '94 efi motor looks just like that and it is sitting happily in my '74 gt with a notched crossmember. I may end up modifying my pan because it's going to be hard to empty the front sump, but it fits as is. Ryan |

should you modify the Fox rear sump pan, your Fox pick-up may not fit due the the loss of depth near the center of the pan. you will need to be sure you do not remove too much of the pan. i cut my pan along a scribed line from the front to the beginning of the rear sump (pan is tapered F>R now) leaving only the smallest of clearence below the oil pump. my Fox pick-up would not fit, i had to custom fab one, i believe my pan now holds 6+ qts. oil. no oiling problems and the remote filter was attached to brkt at left rear of engine near dipstick. Ryan was correct, the front sump is useles and near impossible to drain. i have 2K miles on my 5.0 (93 Mustang LX donor) and milage with the MGB 3.90 R/E on interstate was 26MPG. not bad for 300HP. BTY, have the Tremec S HD T-5 w/ .63 OD. |

YEah your going to have to notch the k member to fit a ford under the hood. That said about any rear sump pan can work, each has thier ups/downs. I got a cast alum explorer pan off ebay for under $40 and it is a nice 6-7qt unit. |

OHH on the accys.. THe Explorer set-up is the shortest ford set-up you can get. IT is way shorter than anything else out there, follwoed closely by a 94/95 mustang set-up. then add 1.5" to get to a normal FOX body set-up.. |

Rich, I highly recommend a good quality baffled pan. Especially if you intend 'spirited' driving on back roads and track days. This is the one I have on my 302 (342 crate stroker) conversion now. http://www.breezeautomotive.com/details.php?prod_id=374# As mentioned above you will have to notch the crossmember at least 1.5 inches for clearance. Let me know if you need pictures. If you are on a budget, then a 5.0 Econoline van rear oil pan is a good one to use and holds 6 quarts. I used this one on my initial conversion in 2000. For a water pump I used Ford Racing Short design V belt pump M-8501-E351S amd matching pulleys M-8509-Q. A very good source for conversion info will be the upcoming 3rd Revision of How to give your MGB V8 power which now includes the Ford 302/5.0 conversion. Good luck with your conversion Cheers Pete |

Pete WOW --youve done alot to your car since I saw it in MI !!! Hopefully Dale will be in TN and you can compare notes on those strokers ! I used an early Bronco oil pan on my Ford --works out just fine. I hope to get to TN also All the best Gil |
