MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 7 x 15 wheels

Anyone using Compomotives ML 7"x15" wheels.
after a chat with their sales dept. I am told that the extra inch is on the inside and will fit without body mods. I would really like to fit sticky 205/50 15" tyres. The wheel offset is 38mm and according to my measurements they should fit. Comments anyone?

Cheers

Mark.

Mark,

On the basis that standard offset is 22mm the extra 16mm would cover the 10mm increase from my 195's to 205's - so would work for me.

Mark Gander used SAAB wheels of similar offset and had interferece problems on front - thread in archieves-and he has now sorted problem.

If you use tyres with a bigger volume than 199/55 on those wheels you may have problems - see the archives

Oh hell Ive just gone and ordered a set of four. I am pretty sure they will fit with the bigger tyres. The rear axle is central and the arches have been de-lipped. The front may pose a slight problem as I am using the RV8 manifolds but I guess some spacers will sort this if required.

Will report if I have problems.

A bit late now I realise - but 205/50 x 15 tyres fit perfectly well on 6" rims - as used by many on MGF and also Maestro / Montegos
David

Mark,

Please follow up with how this goes. I'm sure that I'm not the only one interested in this fitment. What year MG is this going on and was it a disc car or ww originally? Please let us know of your obstacles and what size tire you settle on fitting.

TIA

Actually Paul the offset on my wheels is ET30 which just fit - but only just. Also to point out that it isn't only a case of getting big tyres. The larger the rim supporting those big tyres, the better the ride will be.
It may be that 205s on 6" will provide better traction at launch-time but 195s on 7" may well be better for handling. 205s on 7" maybe better still. I don't know.

My car is a 1973 Factory Chrome bumper V8 I have de lipped the arches. Also fitted Composite rear springs with panhard rod. I should get the new wheels in about 3 weeks. Will post an update.
